OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

The first batch of six figures for my new early eighteenth century force are the right flank companies from North & Grey's Foot (later numbered 10th):
I'm not completely happy with the faces as they've come out a bit doll like, and varnishing will have to wait for better weather. The next six are about a third done. So I hope to have the unit complete by mid next week.
I have blatantly copied the grenadier cap design from Roy's version of this unit, only adding (an approximation of) the royal cypher to the front flap.
All I can say when it comes to doing the details is, thank you Optivisor

I guess these are the eyes, which make this doll like look. Painting eyes is really difficult. I would suggest to paint less white and make more black or this color you choose for the iris. Also perhaps try to paint smaller eyes, this look more realistic too!
But this are all only suggestions! This are very nice miniatures and very, very nice uniforms!!!!

That grenadier cap looks wicked!!
I might have to sneak in and "borrow" your hand so I can do stuff like that.
But look out, I'm painting my second 6 for my french de coietqueen.
Also what rules will you be using?

I wouldn't have a hope without the vision aid - long gone are my days of painting 15mm highlanders by eye
I planning on using BLB, but have a copy of Gå På as well - how about you?
Looking forwards to seeing your Frenchies

My problem is not the eyes! as I got better then 20/20, but my free hand suck.
I honestly don't write by hand except my signature, as noboy including me can't understand what I write.
I'll probebly use BLB, like the rules alot, second is black powder.
It does give you two very diffrent gameplays with the same rules.
I like the BLB more in mechanics, but BP has how shall we say, more imaginativ rating ect.
Like the cossacks I'm making for sweden, you can give them some cool "extra" stats that gives them intersting uses.
But BP is much more staight forward, BLB with the command dice makes it more of a challange.

Based on some information from Ray, the grenadier caps for North and Greys needed a little reworking. I also took the chance to redo the eyes:
Then it was onto the left flank companies of the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards (with a different approach to the faces, which probably means revisiitng North and Grey's again
):
Next up, the left flank companies of North and Grey's and the centre companies of the 1st Foot Guards
