Introducing new period rules from League of Augsburg

Post by barr7430 » Mon Aug 25, 2014 6:00 am

I am delighted to introduce a brand new set of rules for the period written to fill a gap in the series available from League of Augsburg.
http://leagueofaugsburg.blogspot.ae/201 ... ue-of.html

The rules are currently at the play test stage but are already proving to fit the bill as per their specification.

I have long wanted a set of nuanced rules to fit between grand battle scale (Beneath the Lily Banners) and skirmish(Donnybrook).

These rules are designed for small to medium sized engagements with variable sized units from 6 to 60 models. BLB based and sized units can be used without modification but you could also add several extra stands on to BLB units to make larger and grander looking regiments.

The rules work on card driven system similar to Donnybrook and incorporate several innovative features and themes not previously used in LoA publications.

Table sizes can be as modest as 6 x 4 or even 4 x 4 but can scale up to whatever you want. Units per game for a standard scenario are 4 or 5 per side. Game length 90 - 120 minutes as a norm. The rules will work for any battle from around 1618 to about the AWI period but are grounded firmly in the core period of 1660 - 1746.

To put the rules in context think about battles like: Killiecrankie, Dromore, Newtonbutler, Sedgemoor where relatively small forces of variable sized units engaged.

The blog will feature 4 test games over the next few weeks. The plan is to have the rules published as soon as is practical. The rules do have a name but for now that will remain under wraps.

These rules should be perfect for the smaller GNW actions, of which there were many. So it shouldn't take long to build a Swedish force for these rules, once the figures come out.

Barry,
You mentioned a card driven game similar to Donnybrook, but will it simplistic as Donnybrook or a bit more in-depth as Maurice? Looking forward to what you guys come up with. I like card driven games, but the crew here is a bit skeptical...

Aha! I love a challenge! Why don't you and the gang get involved in the play testing as you did with BLB?

PM me if this is of interest

cheers

Greg

If your guys enjoyed playtesting BLB then they'll have a great time giving these a try.

Dave & myself have played 4 great games, realistic but immense fun, give them a go.

Hello Barry,

I was just looking on the blog at the first play test post. Was curious if these new rules will tie in somehow with the Ireland Supplement or will the supplement stay based on BLB2.

Very interesting project, would be ideal for Tangiers, Ireland or even small actions between Turenne and Conde!

cheers

I think the plan is to produce these as a stand alone title as they will cover many periods.

If any of you are interested in the rules, Barry, Gerry and I will be putting on a demo using the rules at Partizan this Sunday, come along and say hi!

Edward, the Ireland book will include scenarios for BLB, Donnybrook, AND the new book, offering a wide range of game types.

Is this a war gaming first: A scenario book that supports three different rule sets!
