New "Osprey campaign like" book of the LoA War in Catalonia

Post by chema1986 » Thu Mar 31, 2016 11:59 am

Hi all! for those in the forum who can read Spanish, there is a new book from the "Editorial Almena" Warriors and Battles collection, which , for the first time, deals with the Nine Year's war in the Spanish north eastern frontier, Catalonia, with some nice colour plates of the uniforms of both sides. Hope you find it interesting.
Kind Regards

This does sound interesting - thank you for letting us know.

I must admit that it would be very helpful to know if this book will be of interest to the forum members who can't speak Spanish (like me !). I'm probably asking if there are many pictures (or tables of information) that will make this useful to a non-Spanish speaker.

Hi!

Well, If you can not read Spanish probably not... but there are 4 colour plates with uniforms of the Spanish and French armies in that front, pictures of several generals and leaders, some maps and photos of some of the castles and fortresses in Catalonia ( very interesting, because they are well preserved). And the history of the campaign on that front from the begining of the war until the peace treaty. It is a shame because this front (as well as the Italian) are normally negleted by British authors who normally favour Flanders and the Glorious Revolution for obvious reasons :P

Cheers

Because Marlburgh, Barry's favourite general of all time fought there. 8-)

Certainly appears to be. Anyone (from the USA or UK) have any experience ordering direct from this publisher?

A visit to the webpage

http://milistoria.it/Apps/WebObjects/Mi ... 1&lang=ita

shows a whole bucketful of tempting titles in this series, mostly on enticing topics topics not covered by Osprey, etc. :D

PS Edit - I just typed in the entire title at US Amazon and had several buying options

I ordered two other titles from the series as well (1710 & 1714 in Spain) and all three are (supposedly) coming, in a week or two from independent book suppliers...we'll see.

The collection really worths it... In Spanish military history is the better I have ever seen. There are several titles about the 30 & 80 years war, and the peninsular war... but lots of the colonial campaigns of XVIII cent. and our golden age, XVI cent. But If you can´t read Spanish I would not advice to buy them just for the maps and colour plates.

Just had a look at the web site - so many fantastic titles on unusual subjects. I just wish I could speak Spanish ! I wonder whether this Company would consider translation into English ? I might have to ask them and find out...

Had the usual "Your Amazon.com order of Guerreros y batallas 96..." this morning estimating a week to 10 days from US and/or UK independent book dealers. Cost (with shipping $3.99) $28.62; again we will see...

Cheers,
