Gentlemen, To basics. Food. Is Treffers OK with everyone for a "Kirrie oot" for Saturday lunchtime? I've taken the liberty of collecting High Tea and Dinner menus from The Drumshademuir Restaraunt. Adrian, a high tea is a main course with bread, tea, scones etc on either side of it. This will mean d...

Blucher, the only bug you've caught up here is the wargaming one. Your brandy and ginger libations would kill off anything that moved. We do think it rather odd when you smear it all over your chest though! I can't believe I'm going to say this but we're all looking forward to seeing you at the week...

No Roger. Knocking over trees is part of the fun. It's the only way the Allies can get at some of the noble Frenchmen. Besides this battle is the only opportunity we have to get every miniature tree in Scotland on one battlefield.

No Barry. A dryad is not a discrete name for an East Kilbrodian. It's a walking, sometimes talking tree. Talk to the trees man. Dave O'Brien, thanks for the info about private messages. I didn't know such a thing existed and have just read some messages from David Mathieson from March. Ahhh! Communi...

Very slight change of subject here. Angus, in his wisdom at the SESWC on Tuesday, put me in charge of lumber to matchsticks. A great honour but probably beyond me. You are to be forgiven for thinking that I was keeping Andy from Last Valley in a living before he embarked on his new career but I can ...

OK Barry, the Pessimists were right. To paraphrase somebody, "if they think they can't....". Plan B was tried in March. The even better Plan B(b) now swings into action. The hall is booked and has been advance paid to be sure of the booking. The boards and tables are at the hall. If someone can conf...

TARGE 09 DATE AND VENUE CHANGE

As most of you will know, Kirriemuir Town Halls are closing for the best part of a year for restoration. This means that, for the first time for many years, the annual bash organised by Kirriemuir Wargames Club will have to move. TARGE is moving to Webster's High School (WHS) which turns out to be a...

The Airlie Hotel shows no signs of life at the moment. Let us assume that it is not available for accommodation and meals for the Malplaquet game. The alternative arrangements should roll smoothly into place like a well oiled machine. OK, we'll muddle on. I was not party to the discussion about the ...

I finally caught up with Glynn at the weekend. It became clear that he was not in Kirriemuir. He is running a pub in Sussex. A new management team is being appointed. Glynn promised to get them to contact me but I've heard nothing so far. Very annoying. I have an AGM booked in there for this evening...

I'm not sure what the French field defences of the period looked like but I do have lengths of banked/grassed earthworks withsome stonework but mainly wooden defences on top. There are timber walkways behind that and larger areas that artillery might occupy. It' all a bit Saxon looking, probably bec...

Thanks for your messages Gentlemen. I've passed them on to Shelagh who has been almost living down at Zoe's since the new arrival. Barry , I promise I have put down the tanks but the Gatekeeper has not allowed me to pick up Jack yet. The Gatekeeper, that's Louisa, has a repeat mantra. "Sshhhh! Baby ...

Announcement from The Cantinierre

Little bother Jack arrived yesterday afternoon, eleven days late and eleven days late for the LoGW weekend. He’s cute but he needn’t think he’s going to get all of the attention at the next meeting. Granddad is chuffed but I’ll be playing with granddad’s toy soldiers long before Jack and just watch ...

Thanks for the French Guard Angus. I have no idea what they did or didn't do at Malplaquet but I presume its a poisoned chalice. Did they stay within a single two foot tile for the whole battle? Now , if I'd been given a free choice of command which would I have gone for. Ehm......French Guard it is...

Note just in from Duchess Salmond, "We are amused". I think that translates as, "Oh the banter". In the company of 14 I think there were 14 wind up merchants among us. Long may it continue. The consensus seems to be that the Guide Halls make the perfect venue for wargaming and it does save all the h...

Well done Barry. An excellent weekend. I enjoyed both days. Everyone will appreciate just how much work goes into the advance planning of huge games such as these. Lots of it is unseen but the evidence was there in the smooth flow of the games and in the accolades on this forum. The table on Day 2 w...
