Hi Pabblo, Cheers for the input. Food for thought hey? I found this: The Army of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf : Organisation and Deployment [...]Baudisson's, sometimes called Bauditz's, Dragoon Regiment, Swedish name - Holsteinska Dragongardet. Organisation: Listed as 4 squardrons of 128 men, 5...

Hi Pabblo, I think you're right. Other Dutch (native, foreign and subsidy) dragoon regiments had 4 squadrons of 2 troops each, Württemberg-Oels had 5 squadrons of 2 troops each. But when and under what other names are Danish dragoon units mentioned? BTW: The Dutch had 17 native dragoon squadrons, an...

Hi Barry,

Yes, they were Danish subsidy troops (dragoons) in the pay of Zeeland, forming half of dragoon regiment #1. (Source: "Die Vereinigte Niederlande - Nationaltruppen der Provinzen Holland un Seeland im Spanischen Erbfolgekrieg 1701-1714" by Belaubre, De Wilde & Kolberg)

Hi Pabblo, The CD has no uniform info on Grovestins (as that is unknown). However, there is a portrait of the commander of regiment Cannenberg (in the pay of Utrecht) who wears a cuiras. His coat and breeches are buff, lined in red. Perhaps his regiment (formerly Athlone) did wear cuirasses too. In ...

Hi Pabblo

The CD is worth every penny, although lay-out and artwork aren't of a very high standard. Combined with Sapherson's booklet on William's army it's probably all you need for the Dutch.

My German is pretty good actually, I just translated some stuff for Dan. 8)

Hi Pabblo, There's no uniform information unfortunately. The regiment was heavily involved in Flanders and it was present at the battles of Ramillies, Oudenaarde and Malplaquet, only to return to Holland at the end of the WSS in 1711. My source for Grovestins wearing a cuirass is 'Vier eeuwen Nederl...

Hi Pabblo,

Regiment Grovestins (in the pay of Friesland) did for sure, I'll see if I can up with more info on other regiments over the weekend.

Cheers

Nice list Edward! It seems just right for the LoA period. A minor detail: a thing I'd consider for the WSS period is swapping the Danish infantry in Dutch pay for Swiss or Swedes and the Danish cavalry in Dutch pay for Germans or Swedes. For flavour, one of the Dutch Guards batallions could be Nassa...

Les triomphes du Louis XIV

Hi all, I'm frantically searching for a (digital) copy of "Les Triomphes de Louis XIV" by Jean Belaubre, published about 1970. Does anyone know where to find one or is there anyone with a copy who would be willing to scan / photocopy it? (I could trade it for a digital copy of "Les Triomphes de Loui...

Hi Barry and Adam,

Best wishes for you too!

Thanks a lot for the info which is very helpful indeed. I'm expanding my Dutch army and was looking for a more unusual troop type. Marines seemed an appropriate choice, hence the question.

Kind regards,

NYW Marine regiments

Hi all,

Does anyone know if marine regiments of the 1675-1700 period had pike and / or grenadier detachments?

Thanks in advance,

Catholic Blue Guards

Hi Barry, A very intriguing article indeed. The 'catholic' distinction is one which is certainly uncommon as dictinctions in the Dutch army were ethnic (walloons, germans, swedes etc.) Besides, most Dutch, including the nobility were protestant. Wouldn't it be odd that the monarch who had ""For the ...

Dragoon drums

Hi all,

I want to refit my dragoon musicians with drums. Does anyone know where to find loose drums in 25mm?

Cheers,

Mats
