Re: Wargames Factory WSS - Floppy Hats...

Orctrader, The uniforms will be completely wrong. The Northstar 1672 range is the former Copplestone "Glory of the Sun" range. The uniforms depicted are specifically for the 1672 to 1678 period of the Franco/Dutch Wars. They have more frills, fuller-cut coats, shorter coat sleeves with large high (j...

Re: 15mm LoA figs?

sdennan; Here are some comparison pics that I did for my blog awhile back of the available 15/18mm figures for the LoA. All shots are against a 4mm square background with interim marks every 2mm. You will see that there is a wide variance between ranges. Musketeers: http://i101.photobucket.com/album...

Re: SPANISH UNIFORMS NYW

Mick, There are "smatterings" here and there, but the most comprehensive site on the web is that hosted by Dr. Pierre Picouet. I will warn you that he uses a "multi-media" hosting service and there are pop-ups and ads galore. The site is "Los Tercios y el Ejército Español, 1525 - 1704", and it does ...

Re: More Plastic figures any one intrested

Ginger, I hope my comments have not been misinterpreted. I have not had a "bad experience" with WF, in fact, the overall experience has been good. My disappointment is with the fact that WF seem to have left a lot of "orphaned" ranges out there and don't seem to have a high priority for picking them...

Re: More Plastic figures any one intrested

Ginger, My honest opinion, at least in the foreseeable future? Start checking out the "old ladies" and looking for deals. I have submitted preliminary artwork for exactly what you describe, both as a full box set and as mini-sprues that could be sold individually, and both to former management and c...

Re: Greetings from Nottingham

Gentlemen; I have received and exchanged correspondence with Dan Schorr, whose name many here will recognize from the late, lamented "Northern Wars" web site. Dan is someone whom I respect a great deal as a researcher, an historian and an author, and someone whom I'm proud to number among my acquain...

Re: Greetings from Nottingham

Belaubre and Fouré are quite obviously wrong on that one. Arthur, I don't claim to be an expert on the subject, and certainly have not done as much research as you appear to have done on the regiment in question. However, I do find your last statement to be a bit "heavy-handed". Belaubre's "Triomph...

Re: Greetings from Nottingham

Edward, Please note the attribution. "I" am not saying where, how or when they lost the colours. Pierre Fouré is stating that, according to Belaubre, the colours detailed were lost by the Regiment at Neerwinden (and yes, 1693). The story of Sir Robert Douglas retrieving "a" lost colour could be corr...

Re: Greetings from Nottingham

Gentlemen; Time out on the decision on the colours, please. It turns out that there are at least two fairly respected sources attributing the green flag with yellow saltire to the Regiment during the Franco-Dutch War and the Nine Years War. According to "Colors of the French Infantry Under Louis XIV...

Re: Wargames Factory WSS boxes

Gentlemen; I was part of the "consulting team" that helped with the design of the original WF Infantry set. This set started as a "Liberty & Union League" submission and the mandate then was to create a truly "generic" set in an "old school" style for doing Grant & Young style games. Hence, the rath...

Well Bloody Hell! I just spent almost an hour composing a very detailed response to your query with links, notes, sources, etc., then lost the whole thing right before I posted it when a storm started here. So, here's the short version and if you'll PM me with your e-mail address I'll be glad to sen...

Re: Cravat and tassels also for French Cavalry

Jan, The best 28mm "toppers" that I have seen with both tassels and cravates were from Front Rank, but these are long ones suitable for Infantry. Hinchcliffe Models used to make both the long ones and shorter ones for cavalry guidons. I don't see these on the new Hinds/Hinchcliffe site, but you migh...
