Forget the bronze, I'm more interested in how he got that nice brown tunic!

The start of a Colonials Project

Having just embarked on an 1870s Colonial project, here are a few pictures of the first miniatures that are done: Lt. Thirkill and Sgt. Hollis conferring in the ruins: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_zXO6hmKBwIc/TUY-tEYuZqI/AAAAAAAAABQ/xUmIePwn_zU/s1600/Officers+Call+in+the+Ruins.png The line forming on t...

My translation was "mountain men wannabe."

The best answer I can give is all of the above. QM's would tend to distribute the oldest stocks first. Also, I believe uniforms were issued on a pro-rated basis, with some things like headgear and coats being expected to last longer than shirts, breeches, etc. Naturally, things would tend to break o...

I agree that the Funcken works have their problems, but they will at least give you an idea what the colors look like and where they are placed. They're pretty good for the French, less so for French allies and bad for the Allies. Still, worth acquiring a copy just for the sheer prettyness of their ...

Napflags (hosted by Ian Croxhall's Warflags) has a brief on Russian flags, including the 1803 assignment to Inspections here . That gives you a place to look for what regiments were assigned to what Inspection. Phillip J. Haythornwaite's The Napoleonic Source Book provides the following uniform for ...

How about an old-school The Sword and the Flame ? Both the original rules and the Indian Mutiny variant are available here: http://www.sergeants3.com/18.html It's still card activation based (red for British, black for the other guys). With that said, you have more control over which unit gets to ac...

Speaking of, what colors did you use for the grays and butternuts on your Confederates, Barry?

They look almost like Austrian artillerists, and it's a NICE color combo.

Well, if your wargaming partner is building Dutch, you're pretty much stuck painting French, WoSS Spanish, or WoSS Bavarians if you want historical opponents. The WoSS Spanish are my suggestion if you get tired of painting lots of the same color. Otherwise, a French army is the most useful - they ca...
