Re: Dalton commission register dates

Thanks Wienand, I understand the Julian/Gregorian calendar bit but didn't realise the english also started the year March/April although I knew the UK tax year starts 6 April I didn't realise the reason behind it. A commission in February would never have a different year just through old/new style ...

Re: Dalton commission register dates

Rohan

Great! yes that could be the reason, it fits in with the data I have, it is also an easy fix (just ignore the first year) although I have failed to find mention of it by Dalton or others in my searches.

thanks again

Dalton commission register dates

Can anyone explain how the double dates bit works in Dalton, I thought it was to do with new/old style but that is only 10 days. for example in one list Dalton gives 15 Feb 1701/2 for Thomas Ferrers commission, but then gives 15 Feb 1702 under supplementary commissions can anyone explain this and so...

Schellenberg/Blenheim losses

I am looking for the strength/losses figures for the Dutch contingent at the Schellenberg/Blenheim. I believe these are in the following rare work - Het staatsche leger: vol 8 Het tijdperk van de spaanse successieoorlog 1702-1715 - Jan wijn. is there anyone out there with access to this and would be...

Re: Capture of Minorca 1708 -- order of battle

From the 6th Southwell’s regimental history
750 privates (the 6th and some dismounted English dragoons)
760 English marines
750 Portugese
700 Neapolitans
300 Spaniards

but I suspect I am going down roads you have already been.

Re: French Battalions in Ireland...

Hi Mike

Any information on the book like pages, hardback OOBs price etc

I have Neil Littens, Falkner and most of the older histories, it will be interesting to compare.

what else have you written? and what are the other projects if you don't mind me asking.

regards

Mark

Re: re Williamite OOB for the Battle of Aughrim

Where is the OOB you refer to? Both the Dutch and the Irish regiments mentioned were quite large, the Dutch had 10 companies and the Inniskillings had 8 troops each of about 60 men plus officers. Don't know the strengths at Aughrim though. initial action involved a detachment of 200 Inniskillings di...

Re: Ansbach regiment Castell

All the contemporary lists give Jung-Seckendorff (or jongh or senck) at Ramillies in the second line. Jung implies there was an Alt-Seckendorff at this time also. (plus the dragoons as you stated) Anspach Regiment in the Dutch service Lt-Colonel Janus von Eberstädt 1703 von Heydebracht 1705 von Seck...
