Re: 1672 Dutch regiment - Painted

The miniatures are superb, very fine finish

but (forgive me) the flag is gruesome

These gorgeous minis deserve an equally gorgeous flag

Re: Question about painting Régiment de Maine

But in a english spoken forum it would be a good idea to write in the language the majority can read That's the way it is 8) On we go: "An ordinance of 1672 forbade officers to wear gold or silver on their clothes or saddleclothes. As mentioned above, on the 26th of March in 1698 at the Camp de Com...

Re: Question about painting Régiment de Maine

Maybe I can help you, Raif. The officers were dressed conform with their corps. All units had hats bordered in silver (white) or gold (yellow) with cockades attached to the agraffes around the buttons. This is confirmed by the report in the Mercure Galant *1). *1) Mercure Galant 1698 : L'Infanterie ...

Re: Bavarian Infantry 1690s 1700s

It was during the Campaigns in Italy between 1691 and 1696, at least for the regiments in Italy (Steinau, Liferegiment). Campaign of 1692: "Both regiments received new hats in triangular/3-sided form just before departure, like the ones which had been bought before in Turin" Source: Anteil der bayer...

Re: Bavarian Infantry 1690s 1700s

grenadiers have grey coats with blue trousers
Hoffmann pictures blue coats for the Grenadiers all the way till 1727

the grey coats seem to be speculative at best or confined to one or two regiments

Re: Bavarian Infantry 1690s 1700s

Not only because Maximilian of Bavaria was a relative of Vittorio Amadeo II of Savoy he supported him with soldiers during the 9 years war. A Bavarian contingent marched to Northern Italy and participated in the campaigns of 1691 to 1696. The were too late for Staffarda, but notably the infantry reg...

Re: The Savoyan Army of Vittorio Amadeo II. 1689 - 1697

@Dragone Giallo but I didn't have much luck beside discovering that the Balthazar's regiment had grey uniforms and probably blue facings. That's new to me - where did you find it ? Maybe you could provide the source. The Huguenot foot regiments - well, that's another story. I've read a lot about the...
