Please note that it was a friend of mine who painted these particular figures, not me.

I found this in my archive (taken from Lace Wars Yahoo group) but without exact date (could be 1690 or 1702 as well) The breakdown of the Maison du Roi was as follows: Divided into two divisions - The Maison Rouge - 1060 men Grenadiers a Cheval - 140 men Gendarmes of the Garde - 230 men Chevauleger ...

At the time of Blenheim in 1704 they were known as the Venningen Dragoons and only had two squadrons. These formed part of the 2nd line under the Duke of Württemberg-Teck - 36 Squadrons and brigaded with Hachenberg cuirassiers one squadron, Nagel Horse two squadrons, Erbprinz Württemberg cuirassier...

AFAIK in combat they wore buffcoats, with cuirass over it.
But before 1709 only two regiments had cuirasses - one being horse guards, another - 1st Jyske, that stayed in Denmark.
