Re: VWQ at MCon 19

Yes, we do have people now building forces for this. We have one person re-basing his Scots for this rules set, as well as his new Parliamentarians. Others are expressing interest, but only the non-tournament minded ones.

Re: Unit Sizes?

We had some horse regiments with only 1 squadron (2 stands) based on the scenario we were running. The rules "as written" do call for 2 squadrons (4 stands) minimum. But the amount of horse in the historical OOB did not qualify enough numbers for 2 squadrons, so we made it just 1 squadron. Again, as...

Re: Brigade move test

We have been using the "Brigade move" in our games and it works very well. We play it as brigadiers can only command units in their brigade within 6 inches of them, and all must be given the exact same command. Those units in the same brigade, but outside of 6 inches, receive no orders. The 6 inch c...

Re: VWQ for TYW

We have a few folks in my local area wondering about TYW using VWQ rules as well. You mention at least 2 of the "hiccups" to doing that. VWQ is really representative of ECW, but not TYW (IMO). There were more "professionals" involved in TYW, so there are some definite differences. That said, the flo...

Re: Unit Sizes?

Hi rsk112! Welcome to gaming ECW and VWQ! While not the "expert" on VWQ, I can give you what we do in our VWQ games. While we are not "100%" official VWQ rules as written (I know that phrase will drive Clarence nuts  ) we have tweaked the rules a bit to give us the style of play we enjoy. And ...

AAR - Battle of Roundway Downs

My friend Steve Miller and I had a blast yesterday playing the Battle of Roundway Downs (aka Runaway Downs) with VWQ. https://gamingenglishcivilwar.files.wordpress.com/2016/11/steve1d.jpg Full AAR is on my blog at : https://gamingenglishcivilwar.wordpress.com/after-action-reports/aar-vw...

VWQ at MCon 19

Greetings mates, Had a super time at MCon 19 over this last weekend running 2 games of VWQ. Great compliments on the rules from the guys, noting that the card draw system was great, and that once the initial understanding was done, it was full on fun. We played the Battle of Beacon Hill scenario I'v...

Re: VWQ Battle Situation: multi-unit combat

Clarence, Again, thanks for your timely reply. I did forget to display/mention there was a hedge line forcing the Royalist unit B into column to move at all, but agree with your assessment that march columns are not a combat formation unless across a bridge. Ok. On to Millennium Con next month to sp...

VWQ Battle Situation: multi-unit combat

Greetings Gamers, Over the weekend playing VWQ, we had a situation where 3 units got involved in frontal contact melee. We worked out a possible solution, but would like some input. Situation: Parliament infantry unit (2 shot, 1 pike in line) was defending a hedge (light cover obstacle). The obstacl...

VWQ -AAR and "battlefield situation rules"

Greetings fellow Gamers! We had a refight of the assault on Coventry over the weekend using VWQ rules. A couple of observations/rules questions came up while playing. Here are the situations and how we handled them. Your input on these would be kindly appreciated. 1. We had routing units burst throu...

Re: VWQ Quick Reference Sheet

Greetings all, I have incorporated some of the addenda posted on this site to a QRS I have put together. Here is a link directly to it on my blog: http://gamingenglishcivilwar.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/vwq_qrs_v3-2.pdf If there are any glaring errors, please let me know. FYI, I didn't add in the h...

Question on foot shooting at trotters

Trotters firing at infantry is considered close range per the rules. What about foot firing at Trotters who are shooting at them? Is it considered short range, or based where the Trotters caracole back to (their marked position on the table)? Also - if infantry shoot at Trotters (infantry have the o...

AAR-Battle of Beacon Hill

Had a great first time out with VWQ this weekend at The Game Closet in Waco, TX. Loads of fun and lots of passer-by's interested in not only the minis, but the game mechanics too. Battle report is on my website: https://gamingenglishcivilwar.wordpress.com/ We are playing again Sept 10 at the same lo...
