Hello,

Away from my notes at present, but search for Isenghien and Fieffe (he wrote sketches of the foreign regiments in French service). Note my spelling (I hope I have it correct). Enghien was native French.

Bon chance!

Very nice, Clarence. The Bavarian (Catholic League) army was, in my opinion, one of the more combat-effective armies of the TYW, particularly under the leadership of Franz, freiherr von Mercy (KIA Allerheim, 1645).

Nice job Ray, as always. What program are you using to create the images of the colors?

Heneborn,

I believe the green-coated dragoons are Listenois Dragons, c. 1700.

Edward, If you don't mind wading through O'Callaghan's History of the Irish Brigades in the Service of France , you'll find the information you're looking for. First, the Royal Regiment of Foot Guards (Dorrington's) (2 bns) was at Neerwinden (pp. 172-174). Second, Sarsfield was marechal de camp to L...

Umm, sorry. The actual infantry bases are 40mm x 40mm, as I have found that this is the only size that can accomodate Venexia and Essex. Also, I can use this base size (x3) to put out units for Basic Baroque and Basic Fury (plus supplements). Currently painting Royal Danois before moving on to Royal...

Hi Wayne, I enjoy your blog (and congrats on your recent marriage ... every happiness!). I have Venexia, Essex, and Irregular. You're correct about Venexia -- way too large. I do find that Irregular are compatible with Essex, at least the cavalry, which is what I have. How are you mounting your figu...

A Thirty Years' War Army on the March

Dur Ecu's blog has just published a print showing Piccolomini's army on the march in 1639.

Simon, an interesting question and worthy of investigation. Some first impressions (without doing the investigating I just recommended :) (1) Brigade your grenadiers. This will give you a flintlock-armed, colorful, elite unit, albeit with no pikemen (they used plug bayonets) or colors. I am not cert...

Hello Ray, Thanks very much for your advice. The recommended frontages and depths conform to those for WRG foot and horse in close order, if memory serves, and should be okay for most of the smallish 15s, like EB. I seem to recall problems in mounting my old Essex herreruelos in close order (a bit f...
