I agree with the larger base sizes for guns. I use 80mm square bases which look huge when compared to some guns that are on a 45mm frontage but I think the larger size is more realistic. 75mm square is probably about right equating to the frontage of 3 cavalry figures with 25mm frontage each.
It was sheer joy to watch Dale's French walk force march up the road and stop just in front of my Russian artillery. Close range, large target, unsupported, it doesn't get much better!
