You're right Gary, this is a very good article. Particularly relevant I think to FoW, more so than RF2 which is company/battalion based. I have read many other pieces which suggest that the Germans were not comfortable with close/melee combat, preferring to put up a wall of fire. I do however find t...

Republic to Empire

Rt E is my working title for the Napoleonic rules. Playtesting on the Grand Scale again this weekend. I've done two Revisions on them since January.I have also gotten a way behind with painting the Napoleonics to illustrate. This coupled with lots of foreign travel work and the lack of my new camera...

Flames of War Rules Queries

Another step along the FoW path today I'm afraid. Came across two situations which Paul and I had difficulty resolving: 1. What happens when a Gun team does not lose an Assault and is given the counterattack option. Rules say gun teams don't counter attack so what excatly do they do in their phase o...

Battle of Flussgarten 23rd October 1813

The planning for next week's big one is now finished. The follow on to Hohenbrunn sees the Allies back on the offensive. All Player roles are as before and the orbats are modified versions of those used previously. Rules have been modified and updated too. Reports and photos after next weekend. The ...

Hi Bill! This is a really interesting question. I cannot disagree with your ratios(and wouldn't want to!). I am no expert on the precise details of artillery availability but would recommend that you and your group consider the following when creating orbats/scenarios: 1. Mobility was extremely limi...

The biggest mental leap I had to make was the man&vehicle to model ratio. In GHQ/Rapid Fire the ratio is something like 1= 10 for personnel and 1:3-5 for equipment. FoW is 1=1. So, although the proportions of the forces, Soviet to German was correct, I fought what might be described as a real life b...

I played out the campaig ngame in J4 tonight using 28mm figures and FoW. It was fast, furious and decisive. Managed to roll in all aspects: tank v tank combat, infantry shooting, infantry assaults, counter attacks and mortar fire. All worked very well.

That's another option in the toolkit !

THE PRETENDER?

Thanks Andy! You are right on your orbat. The Rebel Regiments have been given 'colour' titles: Red, Blue, Yellow, Green and White but they may well have been known by the names of their colonel's: Wade, Bovet, Matthews, Holmes, Ffaulkes at the time. There was also and independent company from Lyme R...

Partizan Newark May 29th 2005 - A Picture review

For those who didn't manage to get to the show I have put up a picture review section of many of the games in the Gallery. The games were great and the show better than I've seen it for quite some time. I did not get a chance to ask all of the displayed games permission to show pics, :D so guys if t...

With only two weeks to go to the next LoGW bash I was half way thro' the prep. I spoke with Dave 'Napoleon' O'Brien at Partizan and he said casually..." is the next game a continuation from the last one"   I thought.. Dave, that is a very good idea. I had not thought of it but spe...

I've temporarily withdrawn the Neue Kampagne Zeitung editions until I get consent from Steve Ayers who is the editor. Hopefully, if Steve is ok with it then issues 1-4 can all go up !

fingers crossed.
