Re: Swiss infantry in Spanish or Foreign service

You might want to have a look at Emmanuel May de Romainmotier's "Histoire militaire des Suisses dans les differens services de l'Europe" 1772. It is available on Google books.

Hope this helps.

Dannie, No, but posting a copy of the exact text or an illustration or plate would be.

I'll post here the information or a pic from the book.
Careful Chema. By posting information or a picture directly from the book, it places them in the public domain, and without the author's permission violates his copyright.

Re: Ansbach regiment Castell

Brandenburg-Ansbach provided two infantry regiments to the Dutch. • The first was IR Seckendorff (Johann Philip von Seckendorff), 1708 Castel. Maintained by Gelderland • The second was IR Janus von Eberstadt, 1703 Heidenbreck, 1705 Seckendorff (Heinrich von Seckendorff) (Jung-Seckendorff), 1711 Cave...

Re: Nassau battalion at Almanza 1707

The Nassau regiment you are looking for is not a German regiment. It is a Huguenot regiment in English service raised by H. de Nassau Auverquerque (Count Nassau), 1st Earl of Grantham. The regiment was raised in 1706. To my knowledge, there is no uniform or flag information known for this unit. Perh...

Re: Dutchman 50th Woss

Edwin, I do not see why you think the association with Prins Willem Maurits van Nassau-Siegen is "a bit far-fetched". Willem Maurits was Colonel of the regiment from 1673 through 1684 when Haersolte took over. In addition, one of the companies in the regiment was provided by Nassau-Siegen. The flag ...

Motorway,
I am curious as to why you have doubts about the flag?

Re: Another Danish Flag question

Greg, There was no such thing as "King's Colours" in the Danish Army. The white cross on a red field was the Dannebrog or Danish national flag. As such it was flown from fortifications and carried by the Land Militia. Sapherson is unreliable as it pertains to Danish flags. He obtained most of his un...

Re: Help with Danish Flag I.D.

Greg,

Having read some of the posts of Herr Doctor, I believe the flag is just pure fantasy; however, if you could contact the individual, you might be able to ask his source. I don't believe it is based on any actual flag.

Re: Help with Danish Flag I.D.

I am unfamiliar with this particular colour. Could you provide the link to the site where you found it? A small correction, Frederik 4 ruled from 1699-1730. Many of the flags found date from later in his reign. This could be one of them or someone's reconstruction attempt.

Re: Dutch at the Boyne

Grenadier, I am not certain of your source and I am not a weapon and ammunition expert, but paper cartridges were in use long before 1740. At first, just the powder was contained in the paper cartridge requiring a bag for the musket balls. Later, the ball was added and secured with a thin string or ...

I assume you are talking about the Livregiment in the WSS. A Robert Hall plate on the regiment including standards is available from the Pike and Shot Society.
