Re: Turkish Wars 1670-1700

Millar, Simon, Vienna, 1683, Campaign 191, Osprey (2008) AFAIK this book is a crap. Really? Why? Info from various Polish language forums. Polish historians, notably the best modern 17th century specialist Radoslaw Sikora called it "full of errors" and "totally unrelaible" at least when reffering t...

Re: Cavalry - number of belts

To carry on with the original topic of this thread - and moving away from the French army and my comfort zone - it would appear that the English regiments of horse stuck to their crossbelts throughout the period. In his Osprey MAA book on the British army from 1660 to 1704, John Tincey quotes a 169...

Re: Ebor miniatures new charging Horse

As many period illustrations will attest, French cavalry did not use cartridge boxes

Great information.
Maybe short tutorial will come "how to model acurate French LoA cavalryman".

Re: Hesse-Kassel Regiments @ Blenheim 1704

Ray, read again what's in Hall's book. What is great in his latest e-books, that he clearly shows his sources. Sometimes it means that we are left with knowledge that certain regiment was reported: - in red with blue in 1690 (as shown in camp list) - in red with black in 1698 (from painting we know ...

There is a painting Die Revue der kurhannoverschen Armee bei Bemerode 1735, showing Hanover army in great detail: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/4b/Kurhannoversches_Infanterie-Regiment_von_Behr_1735_Revue_bei_Bemerode_1579x1326.jpg/714px-Kurhannoversches_Infanterie-Regiment_vo...

Here is the link
http://gallica.bnf.fr/Search?adva=1&adv ... in&lang=en
to two tomes of Beaurain with full set of maps.
It seems that all maps are included.
Am I right ?

Re: Regiment Bois D'avid, Luneburg-Zell

I see you seem to think the two Garde battalions would by uniformed the same and carry the same flag's, even though the 1st btn were from Luneburg-Celle and the 2nd btn were from Calenberg-Hanover. I suppose you could be right, raised in different regions of Hanover, but joined together within the ...

Re: Regiment Bois D'avid, Luneburg-Zell

I look forward to seeing Regiment 2A as that is what I will be painting first! I'm not sure I've got it's flag. So far I managed to find only eight patterns so I gave it to nine battalions (two guard battalions carry the same flag). My tenth battalion, Boisdavid (later Le Luc) will receive the Kuhn...

Re: Pikemen at Fleurus

Great find !
I didn't check the book agains all maps listed. I was happy to see that few that I found inside.

[edit]

I dont know how it's possible, but my copy of Beaurain is literally full of maps, including two maps of Neerwinden.

Re: Regiment Bois D'avid, Luneburg-Zell

Kuhn didn't cite specific sources for individual flags, but put the overal bibliography at the end of his booklet. I'll put my sources when describing colours on my blog. A bit of patience, please. BTW. When does the Hanoverian horse first appear on flags? Flags with white horses were taken at Speye...
