Re: A new project

I'm also interested in that project and discussed it a bit with Daniel S. on TMP sometime ago. http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=320082 Brigade Games has useful figures for the "Snapphanar" and Northstar 1672 for the "Regulars". Maybe Steve Saleh will sculpt Swedes with karpus in the fut...

Re: North Star 1672 & Phoenix Miniatures

Advancing infantry and cavalry charging would be great. Adding to the list (and seconding previous posts): Spanish - Dragoons: Mounted and Commands - Cavalry - Armoured Pikemen - Artillerymen French - Grenadiers (w/ and w/o flintlock) Swiss/Dutch - Armoured Pikemen (hat and helmet) German/Imperial -...

Re: Early Grenadiers

So from the available information we can assume that grenadiers were probably armed with flintlocks by the beginning of the Franco-Dutch war. Probably lessons learned from the War of Devolution. French grenadiers maintained the hat while in other armies grenadiers were distinguished by a similar typ...

Re: North Star 1672 & Phoenix Miniatures

I wouldn't trust the dates on many images available on the NYPL site. I've found uniforms posted on the wrong periods and other dodgy information. Those uniforms are most likely from the previous decade as they look very typical of the early 1660's. The Dutch Army Museum site has a very good digital...

Re: Early Grenadiers

Hi Tacitus,

In Portugal the Grenadiers were officially created in 1702 with one company per regiment and in 1707 another company was added.

Re: Test figure

Looks good. Maybe give some highlight on the uniform and dark grey and bits of bright yellow on the hat for depth. If you want more detail you can give definition to hands and face with a lighter shade. If you paint thin light-brown lines along the musket it will stand out and look really good.

Re: Early Grenadiers

It looks like it, but from the available information the grenadiers were issued muskets at the end of 1670. By the start of the Franco-Dutch War grenadier companies were fully equipped and present in all French battalions. I'm guessing the Dutch, Spanish and Imperials must have followed the French e...

Re: Early Grenadiers

Thanks Brian. My problem is finding information about the period prior to the 1680's. The iconography I found is mostly from the War of the League of Augsburg onwards and it's difficult to know how was the issued equipment before that. I'll get a copy of the Osprey book. Hope to find some answers th...

Re: Early Grenadiers

Thanks. I'm working on some sketches to sculpt figures and needed details of the grenades satchel and how the grenadiers carried the musket. http://imageshack.us/a/img4/2193/vx34.jpg I'm also thinking about doing grenadiers charging with bayonetes. Where did they carry them? Would they be armed with...
