Re: 17th/18th MARCH 2012 - WILD WEST

I hope to make it by 18.00hrs - but will need "refreshments" after the drive down - that is "solids".
These can be preceded, and of course, consumed in conjunction with, and followed by copious amounts of liquids, preferably containing a high volume of alcohol

Re: NOVEMBER 19th/20th 2011 Vietnam

No No No No, No 8) Our South Vietnamese is pretty good now, especially where the young ladies are concerned. (Where did Barry get the idea and photo for "that" special event card  Glad I did do the right thing after all, I would have been embarrassed trying to explain the loss of a monitor to ...

Re: NOVEMBER 19th/20th 2011 Vietnam

All is fair in love and war :P If a sampan approached my ship in the Mekong Delta during the war, refused to answer or stop when challenged - I would, and in the game did blow them out of the water. Nothing wrong in that (I keep telling myself). In real life however - it's not so funny. In t...

Re: Hell Riders

Thanks Dave, I believe a poor little Russian Artillery Officer called Leo Tolstoy was on the North Shore during the seige - but that's my sum knowledge of "the other side" with respect to authors. I am sure the Crimean War Research Society would have some "foreign" material as ell. One thing I did g...

Re: Hell Riders

We are all entitled to our opinions. But instead of reading all about the exploits, daring do and how marvellous the Brits were in the Crimea, give a thought to the French, the Turks, and dare I say it, the Russians. We have a infinite diatribe of published material on the Brits in the Crimea, not s...

Re: Hell Riders

Well - Ask a dozen witnesses to any accident, and a traffic cop will get a dozen different versions of the same incident. :? The participants are all dead (so I believe :o ), and all that is left are versions of accounts of people with vested interests in one form or another. Protecting their reputa...

Re: The Alma - June 18th - 19th 2011

Well, as far as the allies are concerned, we have enough figures to put Balaclava on at a ratio of 10:1. (150 British Cavalry chomping at the bit :P ) The Russians would be a bit more problematic in that we already have the figures in excess for 20:1, but not quite the ratio of 10:1. Mind you, there...
