Re: Waist Sashes for French Pikeman (First post)

I think in the French army, stockings were often the same colour as the cuffs.

Re: Waist Sashes for French Pikeman (First post)

I havent seen any images of French pikemen (except the officers) wearing White sashes though in Ospreys book "Louis XIV's army) it shows the Douglas regiment pikemen wearing a white sash, a cuirass and a burgonet helmet. During the Restoration English pikemen wore sashes (usually white), as perhaps ...

Re: War of Devolution 1667-1668... Uniform ideas?

Thanks for the Info! I knew some of the details about the Chamberga guard regiment, but it seems that the illustrarion is not correct, because the guard was dressed in yellow and red. I dont know why is coloured in red and blue in that illustration, anyway is a posibility. The problem with that war...

Re: War of Devolution 1667-1668... Uniform ideas?

This blog (bottom of page) has some images from this period from the Vinhuizen collection. Some Spanish some not. I think the Chamberga infantry regiment (also called the Tercio of Madrid) was formed in Spain in 1665 during the failed coup against Queen mother Mariana. The image in the Vinhuizen co...

English/Dutch cuirassiers in NYW?

Did English and Dutch cavalry still wear cuirasses or lobster helmets during the Nine Years War 1688-97? I'm aware that the English entered the WSS without them but then reintroduced them during the latter conflict.

Re: First appperance of Tricorns in military dress?

In "Louis XIVs army" by Osprey there are engravings from the NYW period with soldiers wearing tricorne, The plates show soldiers in the 1690s wearing them. Army of the Blue King also mentions the introduction of tricornes in Bavaria I think in the 1683 regulations. However I saw a painting from the ...

Re: Scanian War Swedes and Danes?

My understanding is that the Danes abolished the pike between 1676-87. The flintlock replaced the Danish matchlocks during the Scanian War, but the Swedes didn't completely phase out the flintlock until around 1698, and kept the pike (officially at least) until around 1721. I suspect Danish grenadie...

Re: Wanted: details of Spanish horse regt c.1680

>>>did they wear cuirasses in 1680? It sounds as though they did. The above source includes the following : "Until the mid 1680's cuirassiers and lancers wore breast and back plates, or at least the breastplate..." Phil I have some doubts. I have that ebook also, and while it does say that until th...
