Re: R&E - Revolutionary Wars

No sorry - just my flippant turn of phrase. No criticism of you intended what so ever. :)

It just struck me we'd all wandered off topic slightly (me included) with talk of uniforms and Partizan etc that's all.

Back on topic and rules matters for 1792-1802...

Hope you enjoyed your trip to the UK!! Yes I did thank you Stuart. A mad 11 day dash and rather sad background to the journey, but I managed to cram a lot in. My only problem with Partizan was I spent too much time networking and not enough time looking at the games or shopping! (Still - I did get ...

I concur with Chad, parkinspieces’ and Jan’s thoughts – but to expand a little, here’s my 10 cents worth… Horse Artillery The occurrence of Horse batteries (suddenly very much in vogue with the start of the Revolutionary Wars - with a rapid expansion from 1792, especially in the French army) is very...

Daniel - the mantra seems to be pretty much anything goes within some very broad parameters - so long as you apply your scales / ratios reasonably evenly across both sides on the table top. For what it's worth I intend to go with French battalions of around 24 figures, and Austrian battalions of abo...

Perhaps a bit of both, because I wonder if it depends on the circumstances. A line, standing passively with ordered arms, but under fire from artillery or skirmishers they cannot readily see or reply to, would close ranks as casualties were inflicted – as a matter of honour and a demonstration of th...

I think I've got this right when I say the re-launch issue is the "June" issue - that's actually published in May.

Got the press release with their new advertising rates and re-launch info today - complete with new jazzy masthead (trademark registered - to boot).

The mag will be quite a weighty tone and 'perfect' bound from the relaunch issue (like White Dwarf is)

Sounds like someone is suffering from 'wargames envy' Barry. DHW is probably a term dreamt up by one of the same crew who used to brand Duncan Macfarlane's portrayal of the hobby in Wargames Illustrated during the 1990's as "too elitist" Carpet tiles? Fuzzy felt? And what's wrong with chalking the r...

Don't see much wrong with those dab. Very nice.

As obriendavid says - a bit of buff / yellow gives them that "We've been marching for hours down some dusty sun-baked road to get here" look.

I'd leave 'em!

Straight from the text of R2E: For basing purposes base them singly or in pairs on any shape of base that suits. The skirmisher mechanics allow the little buggers to be represented in any way you like and several examples will be in the book. Basically, like close order infantry, whatever looks goo...

I will shortly post a text only version of the most requested extract in the WARCHEST. ..Basing, scales, unit sizes. I have had loads of people asking what we intend to do swith this because there is such a rush on just now with people buying 28mm plastics which they don't what to base in a configu...

Gentlemen - if it's not giving too much away can you please give me some idea of the intended (reccommended) basing convention for skirmishers?

It would greatly assist me with some current painting / new unit ideas I'm considering with RtE in mind.

The layout looks very clear and attractive. Should be easy to find things if it's all like that.

Good job!
