Kris, suggest you go with a "dull orange" or even having seen your photo of Hanmer's a "bright tawny", anything but yellow* As everyone acknowledges these aren't modern dyes and fade like hell under adverse conditions. Ref colours - As Barry says, these seem to change with the seasons. The one shown...
Kris, no problemo ! Back to Francis Luttrell - The regiment was formed form a number of independent companies that mustered themselves in Nov 1688 in support of William of Orange. The only evidence of uniform is the painting of the raising of the regiment at Dunster Castle (Luttrell family seat) in ...
Kris, firstly class paint job !!!! Secondly, this is him in his rig as a Knight of the Garter so you can't gauge anything from this. The problem with this whole subject, ranging from uniform colours to unit colours is that conflicting sources exist and also that there are bucketloads of leads which ...
Ginger, Russia then....The Franco-Irish correspondence (which is partially quoted as a table in my Osprey on the Boyne) actually gives specific numbers for certain regiments down to what type of weapon was being carried and its' state of repair. BTW Don't denigrate the "improvised" weapons carried, ...
Mark, it'll probably come down to which individual units you want to model and the period. Under Charles II the Coldstreamers converted twice whilst under James the trend was a mix which was then changed by William in 1688 when he "Tyrconnelled" the English Establishment to root out any possible Jac...
Greg, are you sure the unit you're talking about are Walloons ? Dutch adjective for Walloon is Walen, German Walloner. I'm assuming that "Lutish" is originally "Lüttich" (pronounced the same though) which means that the troops would have been from the Imperial Circle of Liège-Cologne. Cheers, Mike.
Kris, just a quickie - "Graaf" is a title i.e. "Count" (or as in German Graf) not a name. In this he is the Graaf van Nassau-Saarbücken or the Count of Nassau-Saarbrücken. The Nassau Arms were IIRC a red lion couchant on a dark blue field, but that wouldn't necessarily have figured on the regimental...
It's the infantry regiment (assume there's only one) of the Imperial Franconian Kreis - so part of the Reichsarmee - White would be indeed a safe bet but facings could be absolutely anything.
John, officers' sashes crimson - little or no chance of any orange as this would be displaying loyalty to a foreign power. William is king through a) marriage and b) blackmailing parliament to make him joint monarch or he would return to the UDP and let them pick up the pieces upon James' inevitable...
