Re: Swedish Grenadier???

as i said it is a debatable point . can't find any evidance to say they were worn in the field. but that dosn't mean that they wern't Yes, but what I wanted to point out is that the whole discussion is rather meaningless considering how little information we have about Swedish grenadier caps. We ha...

Re: GNW Russian Artillery

I assume it means iron fittings painted yellow in order to prevent rust. My source to this is Lars-Eric Höglund's book on Russian uniforms.

Re: GNW Russian Artillery

Russian gun carriages during the GNW were probably not red with black metal.

In 1700 and 1710 they were reported as red with yellow metal and in 1707 they were green with black metal. Red carriages with black metal were used after the GNW.

Re: Swedish Grenadier???

as far as i'm aware and there is a bt of a debate on this swedish grenadiers in the g.n.w didn't wear the mitre cap in the field. they wore a tricorne. as i said there is a debate about this and i could well be wrong. Not much is known about grenadier caps because they were not officially issued in...

Re: Swedish Grenadier???

Can anyone tell me if this Grenadier is valid for the GNW and if so what regiment he's from? It is pure fiction. The origin to this unhistorical uniform are the paintings by Gustaf Cederström from the late 19th century. His paintings of historical motifs are well known by Swedes and reproductions a...

Re: Du gamla, Du fria

My Westcountry boy roots mean that Jutland feels very familiar. The effete and self important elites generally seem to be lacking, but, if I understand my Danish neighbours correctly, that role is traditionally fulfilled by the Swedes ;) That view is, of course, in no way endorsed by my Finnish lon...

Which means you never know when you'r 7 foot bearded bear of a friend invintes you to hygge, wether you are getting a beer or getting buggerd. Oh, you can always count on there being beer (as well) :) The very idea that Danes...

Re: Du gamla, Du fria

Tacitus: Do you realize how archaic the phrase "Norwegian hordes" sounds to a person in the 21st century? I loved it!!!!! Artimas Yes, it does sound archaic but in these days the term seems more appropriate than ever. Since the Norwegians found oil in the North Sea they have become one of th...

Re: Du gamla, Du fria

Another option could be Närke-Värmland Regiment. They wore tricornes from 1707 and thereafter looked just like the Jönköping picture shown above. That regiment participated in the major campaigns but also left a few companies at home to secure the border against the Norwegian hordes... :)

Re: Du gamla, Du fria

Swedes are very good at keeping records of things, even better than the Germans, so we have extensive archives filled with information from the early modern age. Which in particular those who want to research their family history are greatly thankful of. But this also means that we have very detaile...

Re: Du gamla, Du fria

The figures look really nice, but the uniforms are unfurtunatly not correct. The unit is depicted with Kalmar Regiment's colour but that regiment had the following uniform: http://www.tacitus.nu/karoliner/slag/images/Sve-inf/Kalmar.PNG Your figures' uniforms are closer to the neighbouring Jönköping ...

Re: Danish Army c.1704

Footslogger: You may be right, after all. Snorrason says that grey an yellow were the colors until 1712. Even if one accepts Skjold Peterson's blue red, that would only necessarily be for the period 1701-04. I don't know who is right. Maybe some who know more on this can chime in? Snorrason assumes...

Sorry about that with the first link, I must have copied and pasted the previous page by mistake.
I've corrected that link now!!!

Well, that is strange. I do not know of any source that say Württemberg-Oels had red facings so he must have misread something.

Well done on your website Tacitus, lots of information there, but that is now three different facing colours for the Württemberg-Oels regiment alone!!! http://www.thewaroffice.co.uk/Blenheim/Images/Lieutenant_General_Scholten/Bielke's%20Brigade.jpg http://royalfig.free.fr/index.php?/category/33 htt...

Re: Sash colours - Denmark

It's no coincidence, that is my website :)

I have promised the people here to translate it to English. But that work is going very slow and is often interrupted for many months at a time.
