Re: 5 new Russian cavalry codes in the shop today

Thanks! Somehow I missed that. Nic has lots of info on the GNW, for sure.

Re: 5 new Russian cavalry codes in the shop today

Friederich Augustus,

Where did you get your info on which regiments the grenadiers came from to form the permanent ones? I'm not questioning its accuracy, but I'm always look for GNW sources.

Thanks

Dannie

Re: Why not take St. Petersburg?

It might be a good question to ask why he did not attempt to recapture this area, city or no city, since it was formerly ruled by Sweden? I haven’t looked this up, but my guess is that he felt that this would not defeat the Russians and they could continue to fight. If, however, he was able to defea...

Re: Balanced army sizes for GNW Swedish and Russian armies

A few comments. The Swedish horse regiments were supposed to be issued with cuirasses but quite often did not wear them. Whether armored or not, they were more than equal to the Saxon and Danish cuirassiers. Indeed, the Swedish dragoons easily took on the Saxon cuirassiers. The dragoons at Fraustadt...

Re: Question from tonights game

I believe that is correct. The theory being that infantry didn't pay much attention to what their own cavalry was doing, since cavalry was always running around.

Re: Quick Question on Orders

In other words, if you have a brigade of four units and you want them all to start moving, you will need expend four orders, but only need to put down one order chit.

Re: New Book on Battle od Helsingborg (nicht Danish)

A true story: I was riding on à train from Lund to Copenhagen a couple of years ago. A Norwegian student was talking to a Danish student (in English, of course!) and one of them said, "No one can understand the skånske." The other agreed whole-heartedly. Maybe that was the Danish commanders problem!

Re: Just which units were part of the Gendarmerie at Blenhei

The companies were brigaded in pairs, so there were eight squadrons of about 140 men each. I would just create four BLB "squadrons" and use four company standards that look cool. Otherwise , there would be too many flags. The Project Seven Years War website shows how the companies were paired. Note ...

Re: Just which units were part of the Gendarmerie at Blenhei

Only the Gendarmerie was at Blenheim. The other units, which were part of the Maison du Roi, were not. The Gendarmerie was not part of the Maison du Roi. So everything beginning with 005 A and after would have been there and all the units before would not have been.

Re: Scanian War Swedes and Danes?

Attached is a link to a PDF which includes a painting by Lemke of the Battle of Halmstad on 17 August 1676. In the foreground there are two Swedish musketeers in blue coats, which probably are from the Garde. The sword belt is over the right shoulder and another belt is over the left. This belt does...

Re: No colours for the fusiliers?

Truls,

What period are you looking for? The regiment was Ingoldsby's from 1693-1705. It be became the Royal Regiment of Welch Fuzileers in 1723. It appears that the flag did not have the Prince of Wales feathers, etc. until then.

Re: New Book on Battle od Helsingborg (nicht Danish)

Well, I got the book last week- very quick service from Denmark to the U.S. - and it looks pretty good. There are lots of photos of paintings, weapons and equipment, many in color, OOBs, good maps and extensive sources references. Of course, it is in Danish, which I decipher more than actually read,...

Upon looking at my thread title, is see that my autocorrect was set to German! My apologies.

Anyway, I get these books regardless of language because there is very little in English.

New Book on Battle od Helsingborg (nicht Danish)

Here is a new book on the Battle of Helsingborg: "Det ulykkelige slag" by Karsten Skjold Petersen. This looks like it will be good. A reviewer compares it favorably with England's book on Poltava and Oscar Sjostrom's book on Fraustadt. If this is true, it's high praise, indeed. https://gad.dk/det-ul...
