Re: White coated, white hatted Hanoverian cavalry

As much as I like the Compendium, I would go with Hall on this question. Hall's latest CD is based on a lot of new research. Twenty-five years ago secondary sources indicated that white hats were worn until at least 1705, but I'm not sure if that is correct.

Re: White coated, white hatted Hanoverian cavalry

A review Robert Hall's CD shows that every picture depicting cavalry after 1700 shows a black tricorne. A few show tricornes in the 1690. All of the "round" brimmed hats in the 1690s are black. There a cream colored hats in the 1670s and 1680s.

Here are photos of the painted Rügen set that are on the BZ website. They can be enlarged.

Re: Other Scanian War uniforms?

As I posted above, Berliner Zinnfiguren does a set of flats depicting the Great Elector landing at Rügen. The set is accompanied by some historical data, including the Brandenburg OOB. There are also a number of photographs of painted figures. While the written matierals indicate that the painted fi...

Re: Opinions and info on Prussian uniforms invited.

I don't have the latest English Hall CD on Brandenburg-Preußen, but I do have an earlier monograph by August Kühn, which is very detailed and a set of color plates by Kühn and Hall that appear to be the basis for the current CD. The line drawings in the Goldberg work clearly show the sword belt unde...

I agree that generic figures would be good sellers.

Re: Opinions and info on Prussian uniforms invited.

Knötel does show grenadiers with the sword belt inside the coat. I agree that the Kuhn/Hall CD is probably your best source. Baccus6 has it a very reasonable price. With 19 plates, it covers the army quite well.

Re: Great Northern War literature, Lesnaya 1708

I'm a year late on this, but try "Vägen till Poltava - Slaget vid Lesnaja" by Pavel Knovaltjuk and Einar Lyth. This is the best modern book on the subject. They show 5149 infantry (excluding officers) and 7801 dragoons in the Corps Volante and 4976 dragoons with Bauer, again excluding officers. They...

Re: Other Scanian War uniforms?

Somewhere I have a booklet on the uniforms of the Brandenburg army at Rügen. It goes with a set of flats issued by Berliner Zinnfiguren. I think if might be at my vacation house, but it will look for it the next time I go and post the info if I can find it.

Re: Regular cavalry in tricornes?

Currently, only the cuirassiers come in tricornes. I use the figures with the cuirass under the coat because you can't see the cuirass in any event. In fact, all my Saxon dragoons are done with cuirassier figures.

Re: Grey Dragoons

The major distinction in appearance was the belts. The horse wore the sword belt across the shoulder while the dragoons wore it around the waist. You may be able to use the Russian dragoons, when they come out, but if so, I would use the standard Warfare horse because of the horse furniture. The Bri...
