Just bought C.P. Stacey's 'Quebec, 1759: The Siege and the Battle'. Any good website's out there on the French Indian War history or gaming it.

Quick n' Dirty Guides

Hello Barry

How about a Quick n' Dirty Guide on how to paint a miniature for those of us that are new to such things. I have a few King and Country Models ($$$$) but would love to buy some of the perry's to paint myself!

Hello Barry. I know you must be very bussy with ULB. Any changes or mods in your 'Republic to Empire'? Will we see them published like ULB.

I believe at Neerwinden the French Guard had 6 bn's and the Swiss Guard had 4.

For WSS French x 6 and Swiss x 2 ?

'Fraising the Battalion' and Sir Robert Douglas

French tactic 'fraising the battalion'. When fraised the battalion was employed in five ranks with the pikemen all in the 3rd rank along the line of the battalion not in the center with the fiimiliar sleves of musketeers. English - Dutch 'fraising the battalion'. Once again battalion in five ranks e...

Fire Modifiers for the Later Pike and Shot era.

Hello Barry and forum. I am currently reading 'Fighting Techniques of the early Modern Period 1500-1763' by various writers. A good book that brings some questions to mind. For our period the Anglo-English, Dutch prefered a firing system based on rolling fire in three ranks and the French perfer fir...

Eagleoftheninth,

I also suggest you give the 'house rules' Under the Lilly Banners a try.

For info and advice, you have come to the right forum. However you can also try the 18th Century Page on the Miniaturespage.com and The Blenheim_2004 Yahoo group.

You could try Warflag.com

I know they have English/Scottish and Irish regimental flags for the War of Spanish Succession which is only a fews years pass the campagins you are looking at. They also have French Regiments. At the Boyne there were five French regiments.

Ah winged Hussars. Was there any practical/Military use for the wings or were they just for show. A kind of 'I've got wings so I'm a better cavalrymen then the other lot'.

I wonder if the Huguenot regiments had more zeal then experence and got their powder - when crossing the Boyne. They would be hard press with no pike and - powder :!:

The Dutch Blue Guards were able to cross the Boyne, I think they had pikes with them.

Well said Barry. For me it is not about agreeing or disagreeing on certain tactics or events, I just love the period and find it very interesting tossing back ideas and suggestions. I also want to see ULB v5 as the best set of rules for this great period. This forum is one of the best on the web. I ...
