Varnis and bases

Gentlepersons, (musn't say men), I need your help with two problems. First Varnish. I used to use Windsor and Newton Acryillic varnish but the new bottle dries glossy, (varnished figures I mean, not the bottle) no matter how much I shake it. So I tried the much lauded Dullcote. This doesn't dry glos...

Quebec additions

I don't know if this is the correct thread or even if I'm allowed to post on this thread but here goes. A recent edition of Wargames Illustrated published some additions Mr. Hilton had written for "irrregular" operations, in this case based on an attack on Quebec. Will these be expanded and or inclu...

Gentlemen, I would like to advise you all on the risk of ordering from the above company. I ordered one of their special offers as a Christmas present and, of course, it has not arrived. The reason given for this will be that the new models were not ready in time. This is rubbish. If they were not c...

Bit more. If you look at the Windsor and Newton web site, go to the Oils, solvents etc, etc page and you get two rows of three pictures. In the centre picture on the top row you will see a glass bottle with a yellow and black label. Buy a bottle like this that says Matt Varnish. Do not buy any other...

Absolutely, no sheen, they look just like they haven't been varnished. The stuff I use is a liquid, i.e applied with a brush, not sprayed and looks like diluted milk. Also I shake it like a mad thing before I use it...don't know if it helps the varnish but, by God, it helps me :D I suspect that the ...

I'm sorry to hear about your problems with the varnish I recommended. I've painted literally hundreds of figures and had no problems. When I've used it, it has dried in a couple of hours. I wonder if the stuff you buy in America is something different to the stuff we can buy, (from an artist's shop ...

Other periods

Thanks for your prompt reply. I was thinking of basing light troops, please see earlier definition, either singly on 2p coins or pairs on a standard base.
Do people think these would be too close for skirmish troops? or does anyone else have any thought that I can steal.

Thanks in advance,
DaveB.

Other periods

Mr. Hilton, I've read the article you recommended re using "light troops", for want of a better name as a way of being able to use BLB for the AWI. The ideas seem very useful but I'd be interested to know what you'd suggest for basing "light troops", riflemen, Indians etc. Thanks in advance, DaveB P...

Control test

Idiot question 604 I assume that the "control" test, to see how many units can be moved that turn, is made by the army commander for the number of units to move in the whole army. And not a Made by each brigadier to see how many units he can move in his brigade. b Made by the army commander to see h...

BLB in other periods

I wonder if anyone has given any thought to using BLB for other eras. There are so many good things about the rules that, to my mind, suggest the basic mechanisms should be used for other eras. My interest is in the AWI, American Revolution, whatever you decide to call it. The main problem, in my hu...

Green Coats

I'm not willing to argue or disagree with those who know more about the period than me, (i.e. evryone else), but I recall reading that it was the Danish Prince George regiment that had green coats. At least until 1701, (I think), when everyone went grey.

Lining colours

In my sole reference for the WSS Danish Army, one of the cavalry units is listed as having filamot linings.
Can anybody tell me what colour is filamot? I've 'Googled' it but with no useful result and our dictionary is unaware of the existence of this word. Does anybody know?
Thanks in advance,
Dave.

So sorry it is an automatic death sentence as the infantry can inflict no casualites and will therefore loose the melee. Being attacked by a unit less than a quarter of your own strength and not being able to fight in the second or susequent rounds is surely a nonsense. Most rules sets assume that s...
