What wonderful maps . . . useful for many periods besides Napoleonics (which I'm not interested in).

Thank you for sharing, Clarence.

I'm scheduled to give VWQ another try in a few weeks . . . and I'm looking forward to it. I'll again have to use some "substitute" troops, but they will be correctly based for VWQ. I am however a bit angry with myself for missing the VWQ option in the "What to do Next" Poll . . . so I voted for some...

I made a mistake with my vote! I was a bit groggy when I voted and did not see the VWQ (ECW/TYW) option . . . so I voted for the Scenario Book since those could be useful for whatever version of BLB one had. Then I saw that there was a VWQ option and I tried to change my vote . . . but no luck, it s...

Jim (and others), I also understand your pain. Many years ago I had finished and lovingly painted fifty-some sailing ships. They were in a tray on the table. My springer spaniel jumped up, caught the edge of the tray, which flipped over, dumped the all the ships on the floor, and landed on top of th...

It should be pointed out that "Victory Without Quarter" now has its own Fighting Talk section: http://www.leagueofaugsburg.com/fightingtalk/viewforum.php?f=20 Furthermore, Clarence has now provided a link to download his VWQ rules in that section. I'm hoping that it copies here correctly -- but if n...

Clarence,

Yes, an FAQ would be an excellent idea . . . and your answer above would make a very good start.

Yes, we did have fun . . . the second game, which was more in line with the way Clarence plays. was more exciting and shifted back-and-forth quite a bit. I found Clarence's comments (as Anonymous) to be fairly illuminating . . . which was my main reason for posting. It isn't often that we get to "se...

Some Games and Comments

Gentlemen, Back in '08 we played a couple of games of VWQ and Clarence was kind enough to comment on them (as Anonymous ). However, not having any ECW troops, we used some earlier Pike & Shot armies that I had lying around unbased . . . so I based them for VWQ and we fought two battles. The first wa...

Clarence, You will note from my comments that I personally preferred your "no simultaneous fire" format . . . it was my regular opponent who refused to play it that way (*sigh*). In the second game I played (against Pete, not Murdock), we played "your way" and the game was a lot better (even though ...

Even though Murdock doesn't care for them, I'd very much like to see a "expanded" version of VICTORY WITHOUT QUARTER.

mikeb, It has been some time so I don't recall all of Murdock's complaints . . . but one that I do recall had to do with shooting. As written when a unit's card is pulled one of its options is to shoot. Murdock insisted that BOTH the unit whose card was pulled AND it's target must get to shoot. So w...

I should point out that I've played and enjoyed Clarence Harrison's "Victory Without Quarter". My problem with it is that my regular opponent does not like them. He seriously disagrees with certain aspects of the rules. Hence, I'm looking for what other SIMPLE rules will provide a good game for the ...

Has Anyone Tried BLB for ECW ???

Having spent my entire life on the west coast of North America, I know very little about the ECW . . . but I have developed an urge to game it. On the ECW forum on TMP I've asked about rule sets . . . and someone just suggested BLB . . . has anyone tried this? If so, how well did it work? What chang...

Ceramic "Christmas" Buildings

You've probably seen them in various shops . . . those often garishly painted (and snow covered) ceramic "Christmas Buildings". Every year I keep my eye out for them since they're often priced very economically. I just purchased eight of them day before yesterday for $2.24 Candian (currently about $...

A problem arises with the (now) varying base sizes. With the wider base size Barry is now using for larger figures, their "arc of fire" is increased . . . and it shouldn't be.

Barry, how about giving us a fixed number of degrees?
