Ten years birthday

Post by obriendavid » Tue Feb 17, 2015 5:14 pm

I've just realised that Barry's site has been up and running for 10 years since January. Personally I think he deserves a medal for everything he has put into this forum and everything else that he has done for wargaming over that period. I look into this site virtually every day and apart from Barry's input here's a big thanks to all the other gamers that posted so many interesting articles and offered up so much of their own time and effort.
Cheers
Dave

You're right Dave! It's amazing to think it's ten years now, it's flown past.

It's a great site and a haven for the gentleman gamers* in my opinion.
I'll take this opportunity to raise a virtual glass and say HERE'S TO TEN MORE!

*Feel free to interpret "gentleman gamers" however you like. :P

Well Dave, that was a very nice thing to say and very much appreciated. I have been a bit quiet on the Forum and the blog lately and that is purely a consequence of being once more in the Middle East and overly busy with the day job. I have however been very productive on the writing front and all you patient people out there who have been waiting for Ireland output are a few steps closer to getting it now. I am about to start another session of writing after this post. The scenarios for Ireland are mounting up and amazingly, there are a few that I hadn't even heard of till I started digging around. It's amazing where you get good info.. Jim W. you'll be pleased to know I have spent a lot of time on Orange Order sites soaking up the info, much of it is very good! :) I am even learning some of the lyrics to the catchy ditties!

10 years, yes indeed, how time flies. We've had our moments on the Boards but our high drama never really amounts to much... a lot less froth and a lot more light bubbles, a lot less PMT and a little more wistful moodiness. We are a very gentle, self regulating bunch and I think the evolutionary process knocks out the less-socially aware members after a while.

The forum has educated me in aspects of the hobby that have been extremely valuable and inspiring. I have, over the years greatly admired the painting work of many members here. I have had the pleasure of meeting dozens of members in the flesh at shows and events and have made some great new friends over the years through the chat and threads.

The laughs have been good too! Memories of Pike rot, Cheltenham Town and SS re enactors at Salute all come to mind unbidden!

I hope everyone can still find something worthwhile on these boards and as those of you who know me a little better can testify.. I usually have something to say

Thanks a lot to all of the FIGHTING TALK community.

I thought this might give you a laugh. I was at my old boss's funeral the other week. It was a full mass. 2 hours! They were having a couple of quiet minutes reflection when a guy in front if us mobile went off. Bad enough but the ringtone was " the sash" . I did expect him to be struck by lightning. Bit of humour that my old boss would have appreciated though!

Just to add my own congratulations to Barry on the 1st decade of "Fighting Talk".
As stated by other members it is a daily ritual to check the boards, both for information & also a bloody good laugh.

So raise a glass to Mr. Hilton & here's to the next 10.

Hear, Hear! Great job Barry! The blog has been inspirational in keeping my interest going in the WSS and for the great information available.

Here! Here!

You've done a marvelous job Barry over the years and the Gallery still serves as inspiration to me with regards to painting and modelling units.
