Hi folks,

Ahhh. A nice cleaned up site again. :D Sorry for the temporary insanity guys, I'm back to normal now. Just thinking though, if all those posts annoyed me so much, how much did they annoy you Barry? Or anyone else who posts or views here?

These posts don't annoy me too much as it is obvious what the subject matter is so I don't even bother opening up the message. It's other SPAM messages which look as if they are genuine wargames literature until you open them up which really bug me, especially if my youngest daughter is in the same room or what ever their site might try and plant in my computer. As Barry has said before I can't see what these people get from all the time and effort they must put in to search for sites like this and then post messages which nobody looks at. Seems very pointless to me but I'm sure there must be something in it otherwise why would they bother. So far this site hasn't been bothered too much, some of the yahoo groups are getting really bad for these messages and I have recently left the Thirty Years War group because virtually every message was SPAM.

Cheers
Dave

Hi Guys

a bot is a piece of code that goes off and searches for sites with forums and then try's to auto register an account, their aim is to post a link in the new created user profile for a site, this link can be picked up by search engines and in this way it'll move that site up the search engine rankings.

this means when people search for dubious content then their site will be high on the list and they get hits

hits = sales
sales = money

they also can automatically post messages on forums for the same reason.

Barry I'll email you direct about this if thats ok

Mike

Barry, just noticed this character

buyviagrponline

trying to join I would think by the name and profile that this is not a wargamer, hope your new Spam system has spotted it?

Yup Dave, zapped him :twisted: Actually I am taking out about 20-30 of these EVERY DAY :shock:
They are not activiated on the Forum(manual activiation ar my discretion) so are unable to post their crap but at the moment I have not been able to put in the blocks to stop them registering in the first place. So... no degradation in forum quality but a pain in the butt for me :roll: .

I have seen some Fora collapse recently... witness KWC's invasion by the body snatchers!
I don't think I am at risk of that.... don't really know what happened there :shock:
