Indian Mutiny; rules?

Post by Atheling » Thu Nov 12, 2009 10:02 am

Hi all,

With Brian's offerings (Mutineer Mini's) about to pop out of the moulds I was wondering what suggestions folk may have for rules in their games?

I'm guessing Chris Peers is popular?

Has anyone got any recommendations?

Cheers,

Darrell.

The SODS club in Birmingham and the Earlswood club use a set of rules, nominally known as Bullets and Balti's. A little tongue in cheek i know, but Balti's are a Brummie thing afterall.

It is a set specifically written for the period by the late Paul Trickett and Dean Whitehouse in the early nineties, with little need (we thought!) for alteration.

It emphasizes fast play and fun. It does give a very good feel for the period however and the game flows to a result in a few hours (depending on your tactics!).

The units used vary, but a basic infantry battalion is twenty figures plus two officers. Guns are single mounted. With cavalry in tens.

Different arms are reflected (rifles, muskets, jezails etc). Morale is the most unusual and unique, with slightly different systems depending on troop type. This we felt reflected the toughness (blood thirstiness) of the British, steadiness of the Sepoys and brittleness of the badmash and landowner troops.

I think the play sheets may have been published in one of the VMS journals in the late nineties............

Sounds like i'm doing the hard sell i know, but they aren't a bad set of rules.
