1914 Project

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

1914 Project

Post by Phil Robinson » Mon Jan 10, 2011 12:12 am

Due to being very busy with commission work, my own projects are taking a back seat, 1914 is a joint project I am doing with Dave Bickley. Dave has the Brits done, so to speed things up my end, inspired by the results obtained by Dave Imrie and Phil Hendry I have decided to paint the figures using brushed on dip method.

Here are a couple figures

More pics and the colour pallette I used are on my new blog

Thanks Phil.. very helpful also a great reminder about how excellent 'Field Grey' looks on a model. I find greys mixed by

Black plus another colour which is NOT white are far more interesting than a strgith B&W.

One of my favourite greys is

Black + Dark flesh (Vallejo) and even

Black + Dwarf Flesh

deeper and richer and the highlights when extra of the light shade are added then plus a little white in the mix at the end...

I'm off on one now

Speaking of, what colors did you use for the grays and butternuts on your Confederates, Barry?

They look almost like Austrian artillerists, and it's a NICE color combo.
