Games workshop inks.

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

Games workshop inks.

Post by big-gazza » Thu Jul 17, 2008 7:40 am

Hi,
not sure if any tried them yet but I suggest giving the new GW inks a try.

If you look past the usual silly names the inks are very good. Good strong colours that are great for glazes and they don't leave you with a gloss finish.

I'm using them on some naps figures just now. I'll post pipcs when they are done.

Yep, I've got to agree. I was skeptical at first, bought them anyway, but having used them to hurry through the infantry for the Arsuf game I think they've become a bit of a must have.

Cheers,

Darrell.

Put one more mark in the thumbs up column. I haven't used inks as part of my bag of tricks in years, but I tried out a few of these and was very pleased with the result.

In addition, for those who prefer a black undercoat, the GW Foundation paints are outstanding.

Not based yet (now there's a surprise), but here's an example of using the GW washes.

I tried to insert the photo, but for some reason it didn't work.

Hi,
you need IMG before and /IMG after. Both in square brackets.

Very nice figure. Should have some Naps stuff soon.

The shirt is P£ Menolith White with GW Sepia then brought back with the Menolith and White. The trousers and kepi are P3 Hammerfall Khaki with a GW Devlan Mud Wash and highighted with Hammerfal + White. Even though It seems as many layers as normal I find it a lot quicker because the deep tone is a wash and the final tones are more subtle.

P.S. Thanks for getting the image in Gary. I had the [img] but for some reason it just didn't pick it up.

Because of all the good words I've hard here I had to try the inks myself and I have to say that I am very pleased with the result. Tried it on a FOW panther tank and it looked really good after just a basecoat of paint and then the ink on, although I decided to do some further highlights just to see how it turned out. Hopefully I can get a picture up soon, probably tomorrow!

I have been using the GW inks for a over a month now and I must say that I am very pleased with the results they flow well and can be used for glazes as well as washes and both dry matt. Here is one of the ACW Generals I painted recently.
