Here come the Cavalry.

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

Ray,

That's what I get for not concentrating.

I was following on from the previous picture which is of your Napoleonic cavalry and that's why I was talking about Spain.

Anyway, 50mm x 60mm it is for my French Napoleonic Dragoons. Four squadrons by eight figures to a squadron based in twos.

Thanks for the help, it is much appreciated.

Regards,

Jim

Those 80mm bases do look nice but i'm concerned that they will take up too much space on the field. I will probably go with the recommended 50mm disc and just have a single mounted and maybe a foot figure with it.

For my Cav units I have gone for 70mm x 60mm (3 figures), as you say the charging horses are that bit longer and it just makes it easier for base to base contact.

Im looking forward to starting this project.

Im not too concerned with brigadiers overhanging so will stick wit the 50mm discs. Have just based the first guy who will be the test for painting and they look ok.

Ray,

I've been talked into WSS by an old friend and have the been given the Allies so been watching your thread with interest. Not sure I will be able to match the paint jobs that your guy has done but will give it a crack. It is my first outing into 28mm and a long time since I painted anything so colourful. :?

More class cavalry ... at least in the looks department. How well they fight on the tabletop will be interesting!

Bit of a nitpick - the flagpoles look too big for the men. Could you move the flag down so the standard is touching the top of the standard bearer's hand, and then trim the excess pole accordingly?

I think it would look better, and have less prospect of brushing a sleeve or a hem and being snagged.

Otherwise, they look outstanding - ready to catch some French bullets!
