OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

Gunfreak,
Your shading on the trousers is definitely very pronounced but, when they are ranked up it won't be as noticeable. Have you tried using the "Dip" for shading? This is not a critisism but rather a suggestion.

I don't like the dip, don't like the look of it.

I too was a bit iffy about the dip as well, but glad i took the plunge. I now dip everything and then follow up with a dry brush over top which really brings a nice highlight to the units.
Where the dip is on your trousers, a light white dry brush will really "light" them up a treat.
cheers
Dave

Inks can be difficult. Are you diluting them? I never use them straight out of the bottle without mixinig water in some proportion unless I am using them to line the recesses and shadows of a vehicle when I use an umber ink and a very thin 000 brush.
I would suggest the same kind of effect can be created by using a wash. Much gentler

I confuse inks and ink was, all I use is washes.
Anyway In the middle are the old ones with brown wash.
On the flanks are those that have dark brown almost gray wash
