Napoleonic Russian Commanders ~ 1812

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

Napoleonic Russian Commanders ~ 1812

Post by Greystreak » Sun Aug 07, 2011 11:16 am

Some recently completed 'leader stands' for my ongoing Napoleonic Russian project. A Jäger Brigade commander, Cavalry Brigade commander, and an Infantry Divisional General. Figures are Foundry 28mm (A. Perry, sculptor), paints are Foundry & P3, bases by Litko. Comments & suggestions welcomed.

Brillian stuff as always Bryce, keep up the good work.
I must get back to my Russians soon but seem to have been a bit side tracked by another war involving the Russians
Thanks for that Bob!

That, sir, is some exquisite brush-work. I think the best - and it is very hard to tell - is done on the jager colonel's horse.

Though the orange-black-white plume on the Cavalry Brigade commander is a close second.

Superb figures!

Here's a suggestion: stop tempting me to get into Napoleonics with your beautifully painted Russians! I have a soft spot for the Tsar's children.

Seriously though, these are excellent Bryce! I particularly like the very dark green you use; eyewitness accounts describe the Russian green as appearing almost black in many cases, and your colour selection reflects this well.

BTW, what rules are you using when you field these on the tabletop?

Cheers,
Tom

Thanks for the comments, all. I'm still not sure my figures would stand close scrutiny on the same table alongside the artwork of Messrs O'Brien, Hilton, or Imrie.

Well Tom, in this Forum the most appropriate answer would of course be "Republic to Empire". :D

But I'm sure Barry won't mind me admitting that they also see action for other 1:20 scale rules (such as General de Brigade, and Black Powder), depending on my Club's preferences, and the gaming time available. Unfortunately, I had already purchased all my Litko bases prior to the publication of RtE, so my leaders are not based on 'round' ones.

Bryce, your painting is superb and it is me that would be worried putting mine alongside yours but anytime you want to pop up to Scotland for a game we would definitely love to have you, but if you can't manage that just send the figures

Bryce,

These are gorgeous; it's just a pity that they fight for the wrong side.
