Battle of Fornovo Project Ahoy!

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

Battle of Fornovo Project Ahoy!

Post by Atheling » Mon Mar 18, 2013 5:31 pm

I'm afraid that I haven't got very much time so I'm going to have to just upload the pics and show what's been happening as I haven't made a post of any substance for quite some time.

The first set of pics is a basic plan of what I'm hoping to use in terms of the models of the models I intend to use for Francesco Gonzaga command base leading his men at arms accross the river Taro for theFornovo demo game that I've been working on.

The second bunch are some conversion models of the French Mounted Crossbowmen that were present at the battle and have largely been inspired by our very own Captain Bloods superb work on his WoR collection:

There is still the small matter of adding some grey putty to the models as well as a bit of cleaning up of the metal mini's but they should soon be ready for a lick of paint.

I've got a few more pics lined up of some of the other stuff for Fornovo that I've been working opn but I'll wait intil these fellows have had a lick of paint before adding anything else.

Darrell.

I'm interested in seeing this progress!

I have two blogs on my blogroll who are doing the Italian wars, and they're quite an eye candy treat. I can't wait to see how yours come out.
With Gen'l Custer Down in Mexico: Yes, one of the goals is to see how many times one can get him killed.

Thanks Rob. Fornovo lies somewhere on the cusp in then history of warfare as the 'Middle Ages' drifted into the 'Renaissance', so for me it is a very interesting battle that could have had a different outcome had Gonzaga launched his attack earlier.

I'll check out your blog roll for the Italian Wars links, thanks for bringing them to my notice.

I'm going to be adding a lick of paint to the command vignette this weekend so it shouldn't be too long before there are some brighter pics.

They are mostly Perry Miniatures from their Wars of the Roses and European Armies ranges. There is one horse, fully barded with a carparison on that is from Venexia (hailing from Italy who used to make excellent cavalry, but I think someone in the US bought out the 28mm Condotta range, making them more expensive to order. I can check to see if I'm correct if you're interested?

Thanks for that. I'm looking forward to seeing the end product!

For some weird reason (cheapskate probably) I went the 1/72 route for the Italian Wars and have more or less completed 3 out of four small armies and it has been a bit of a struggle. Seeing what you are doing simply confirms I made a bad decision

Possibly not. They are a lot quicker to paint up! Also, you can always buy some of the beautiful TAG stuff and start again :D .

Wargaming flutterbies that we all are  .
