The raising of the Royal Saxon Army 1869 - 1871

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

Dear Friends,

With my sanity at stake I have to confess that, like Paul stated, this will become

the Largest Army I have ever done!!!

The reason for that is quite simple:

29 Foot Battalion of 1000 men each are in 1:20 scale 50 Figures per unit = 1450 Figures Infantry
6 Horse Regiments of 700 men each are in 1:20 scale 36 Figures per unit = 216 Figures Cavalry
14 Foot Batteries of 6 guns each are in 1:20 scale 3 guns/9 figures each = 126 Figures Foot Artillery men with 42 Gun models
2 Horse Batteries of 6 guns each are in 1:20 scale 3 guns/9 figures each = 18 Figures Horse Artillery men with 6 Gun models

Ah and add to this about 100 Officers on foot or mounted!

That will bring this XII. Royal Saxon Army Corps to about 40.000 men or 2000 Figures!

I don’t know if I want go into the supporting stuff too as this would be at least 200-300 Figures plus for Ammunition, Sanitary and Train. Not to forget 8 Landwehr-Reserve Battalions which formed, with the other German states, two reserve Armies of 200.000 men each.

I get a bit breathless will thinking about those numbers!

Cheers,
Günter

My question: will all this weight be evenly distributed throughout his residence? If not, I would hate to live below him! :P

Rest assured! :D
My apartment has 250 squarefeet livingspace so there is plenty of room for those tiny little boxes like these:

Our esteemed colleague can't possible weigh as much as his lead horde, but combining the two may spell trouble for the supporting timbers!

Besides, imagine what would happen if his army vacates the apartment and goes rampaging through the countryside? Who can stop them? Wh

:D I can be sure that nothing like that will happen because all here is built of concrete in the good old (german) fashion

To give you the numbers for Saxon Armies I intend to have:

TYW about 1000 to 1500 Miniatures (not even started but planned)
GNW about 1000 to 1200 Miniatures (1000 in existence and growing)
NAP's about 1500 to 1700 Miniatures (1300 in existence and growing)
FPW approx. 2000 Miniatures (in process of planning), raising may start in April but will be a long time project

I think that tell's Dave something about not doing half things  :D

Besides of this I have started with the 1st Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, Lt. Gen. Longstreets Command, Fredericksburg Campaign.
Approx. 1400+ Miniatures (200 in existence and growing)

My aim is to have approx. 8.000 to 10.000 Miniatures alltogether.

Cheers,

Günter

Just a question. Outside the pickelhaube, which would have a different plate, could the figures be used for other German states?
