Lærdalske lette infanterikompani

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

Lærdalske lette infanterikompani

Post by Gunfreak » Sun Dec 08, 2019 1:58 pm

In 1803 the Danish king revoked a deal with the people from Lærdal, that exempted the men from military service as long as they maintained the roads over the mountains. This the Lærdølingene didn't like so the rebelled, in the end the leaders ended up executed. 5 years later Lærdalske lette infanterikompani marched 320km over the mountains in winter to get to the Swedish border, they took part in the battle of Trangen, a glorious victory over the Swedes.

Nice! Are those the same who later(1809-12?) wore some kind of Polish looking Headdress?

They got shakoes in 1812, the shakoes might look a little like some of the polish shakoes, as they flared a little at the top, so not as conical as the later French shakoes.

It's a good little document, and while it does cover Norway, it doesn't really cover Norwegian uniforms much except for grenadiers headgear.
And even in Norwegian it's hard finding info.
