The game table, we played on a 5' x 8' table.
Here the Jacobites have come out to meet the Williamite threat. Troops on the bottom right have yet to arrive.
A shot of the crossing ferry as the Jacobite horse moves out.
Another shot of the ferry crossing
Another shot of the Jacobite horse going to greet the advancing Williamites. At this point the hidden troops have also been spotted in the woods.
Here we see the Williamite traffic jam as the troops make haste in their advance to recapture the pilfered goods.
The Jacobite horse charge the Williamite vanguard. The initial Williamite horse ceased to function as a viable fighting force losing 4 sqdns to 1 of the Jacobites. This cavalry fight also effectively delayed the Williamite foot.
Meanwhile the Jacobite foot enjoy a pint as the Williamites cannot seem to get organized in their advance.
The Williamite commander finally got his brigades organized and sent the remaining horse around the farmhouse. The Jacobite horse turned to meet them down the backside a few turns later. This allowed the Williamite commander the freedom to finally move his initial brigades toward their objective, the ferry. The dismounted dragoons gave a sprited defense of the farm but were eventually overthrown but survived.
In the foreground we see the Williamites finally moving and in the background the last few volleys from the dragoons in defense of the farm.
The game ended in a Jacobite victory. The foot never fired a shot during the game except around the farm. What really hurt the Williamites in this game was their order rolls. Never did they roll 75% and only once 100%.
Something you may notice of the units, all foot are 12 figure battalions (4 figures on three 40x 40mm bases plus one 3 man pike stand) and 4 figure horse squadrons (2 figures on two 40x60mm bases). I never had the figures enough to make the larger units. Just proves that you can use alternative basing with the rules and it does not affect game play in the least. Also none of my flags are permanently attached to units. Each has a rod glued to the standard bearer, flags are merely slipped over the rod. So for the purists, not all facing colors match what the flag shows the unit to be.
Barry we also have a small question/suggestion sheet coming your way based on this game.
Bottom line it was an attractive game that drew some spectators, got us some exposure in the area and was fun.
