Anyone interested in an R2E campaign?

Post by barr7430 » Wed May 02, 2012 10:43 am

I am thinking of running a campaign in which players can command and direct forces of divisional size.
When contact is made the battles will be fought by groups who have the capability to field the models.
The results would then be communicated to the respective commanders with tales of glory or disaster.

I just am testing the water and just want an idea of what the interest might be for this.

Well, I might be interested Barry. Depends on the details, of course.

So please count me in.

I can only reply with a loud YES!

I too would be very interested, although can only field British and French divisions currently.

I don't have the troops to fight, but I can certainly look at some maps and put somebody in a sticky wicket!

I'd be interested, though I could only help with map moves rather than pushing toys around

That is the whole idea guys. You don;t need the physical troops yourself. If you have some, fine and well. When battles happen they would be played out by players who do have appropriate troops. Players can have virtual commands which they control but are generalled by someone else. You get the battle report afterwards. We could have the usual recruitmwnt upgrade/downgrade, commanders, events etc. I would plan to post battlereports and even videos of some actions on the site. Would take a little bit of organizing but has been done a few times by me before.

Chip in if you feel inclined with comments etc

I like the idea. Maybe our group here in Atlanta could have a single command. We won't have enough figures to put on a game but we, as a group, could work on a command.

I'll be keen. I have lots of 10mm troops British, French, Brunswick, Nassau (some 2600 infantry, 600 cavalry, 50+guns and crews).

I'm a bit isolated down here in Australia, but might be able to convince some opponents.

Cheers

Impressive Force...so you have 3 of them to glue together to get the size of 28mm figure

OK guys, this is good to know so we'll let the thread run a little to simmer and see if anyone else wants to join in. I will probably enlist the help of DOB if he is available in the organizing. My idea would be to handle the games in the following ways:

1. Small games - resolved using paper mechanisms (cavalry clashes or patrol type encounters
2. Other games: parcelled out to players(either the 'actual players' in the encounter where possible or another group of players who would act as field commanders and repoert to the commanding player general/ or done by our local group here if the campaign players are unable to raise the forces/opponents in their location.

What people actually have in their collections is great but not critical. If you want to play and are still collecting or play in different scales or are just interested in the campaign.. that should be all OK.
I haven'et spoken to any of the 'Augsburg gang' about it yet but I think the forces would probably be somewhere between a large brigade - division per player.

1) Don't forget the mandatory taunting and propaganda phases!

2) Having different players fight and move the men on the maps is prolly a plus.
