Revolutionary Austrian cavalry

Post by Sheepman » Sun Nov 21, 2010 3:49 pm

As no manufacturer seems to do these figures in 28mm I was wondering if an of you guys knew if I will be able to use Austrian Seven Years War dragoons or curassiers for 1792 - 5 ish early French Revolutionary War cavalry.
I know that at that time they were still wearing the tricorn (if slightly flattened at the front) but would they fit? I thought about using bog standard Austrian Hussars with the peak of the shako filed off but I thought they would just look like other Nap Hussars and wanted something different.
If any manufacturers (i.e.the Eureka lads) happen to be listening in then there's definitely a gap in the market.
Thanks for any help.
Dave.

Cheers Jan, I looked at Trent's figures as I have some of their infantry but I couldn't see any command for their Dragoons so unless I'm missing seeing them somewhere then there's no point in selling those figures without command :(

Wow, those do look nice. I've been waiting years for Elite Miniatures to come out with more for his line. But then I've been waiting decades for him to add to his SYW line to no avail.

Know what you mean 18th Cent, I do like the movement in Elite figures but they could do with getting some Austrian cavalry to oppose their Rev Chasseurs:

The Hussars in the background are Old Glory, as you can see there is quite a size difference, but if kept in different units you can just about get away with it.
I'll have to try to contact Eureka and see if they can tell me when their Austrian cavalry are coming out. Their pricey, especially as the Austrians will need about 40 figs, but it has to be said that there great looking.
Any info about the tricorn Austrian cavalry mentioned above would still be welcomed.
