Crimean war

Post by blandi60 » Sat Apr 09, 2005 12:38 pm

Hi,
Could you please answer what is probably a silly question.I would like to know what is & how to "recross the webbing" as mentioned in your Crimean war gallery for the Russian forces ?
Thanks in advance.
Regards Ian.

Hi Ian,

Not a silly question at all. What i mean is:

The diagonal straps supporting pouches, bayonet frogs etc will cross left over right or right over left, ie when you look at the figure one strap will be on top of the other in the centre of the chest and at the centre of the back.

The Russians had the opposite configuration to the Brits so the straps `cross' the wrong way. Recrossing the webbing is relatively simple:

take a small file and minimise or remove the current configuration by filing down. Don't obliterate the straps though! Once done, use a scalpel to replace the `crossing' in the opposite pattern so for example left over right becomes right over left.

Is that clear enough :? I'm not sure myself but I think so!

Hope this is useful

Cheers

Barry :D
