They could be unhooked, but it would be highly unlikely that the grenadiers had their coats unhooked while the regular soldiers did not. For protection against bad weather the soldiers were issued cloaks or piecoats and you never see illustrations of cloak wearing soldiers with the coat's turnbacks unhooked.

The picture in the Osprey book is supposed to depict a soldier during the battle of Poltava (although the grenadier cap most likely predates the Russian campaign) and that battle was fought during a very hot summer day.

just got two books from the Ukraine through e-bay on the battle of Poltava interesting illustrations of four Swedish grenadier caps in it . one is from the dal regiment another from the sodermanlands and also a grenadier cap from the jonkopings regiment. not sure which regiment the fouth grenadier cap is from. the book on the Russian army at Poltava has some very good illustrations of russain grenadier caps. not sure how accurate the illustarions are as unfortunately I don't read russain.

That sounds suspicious since the grenadier caps of the Dal-regiment and Södermanland have not been described by the sources and Jönköping is not known to have had any!

Hello Mark,

I sent an update to you a couple of weeks back. Maybe you were working away?
I am keeping the updates only within the private investor group for now (ie you and the rest of the gang) and not in the general forum arena.

Suffice it to say you will be hearing from me very shortly. Finished product by the end of May.

Cheers

B
