Russian Grenadier Standards

Post by Spiraluk » Fri Mar 07, 2014 6:19 pm

Does anyone know if the Russian Grenadier Regts carried Standards? I know the Guard did, but what about the line Grenadiers?

Try this location, with the help of 'Google Translate' (Russian language site): http://www.vexillographia.ru/russia/rarmy000.htm.

That's a great link, thanks for sharing it. So we can assume that Grenadier Regts didn't have flags before 1712?

So my other question would be is it worth putting ensigns in a Grenadier command pack? Would people prefer having a flag with them?

Bill,
I can only speak to myself, and say "yes", I like placing flags where I can on the gaming table. My current pre-1712 grenadier units have the national colors with them.

Kinda what I figured tbh. I guess if I include an ensign people have the choice to use it or not.

I do not consider myself an expert on the Russian army, but I have not seen any example of Russian grenadier colours from the GNW, so I seriously doubt they had any.

The grenadier regiments shown in the link above were regular regiments during the GNW and the GNW colours shown in that site are indeed m/1712 colours for regular infantry regiments.

Peter the Great's grenadier regiments were all disbanded in 1731. A new batch of grenadier regiments were then created in 1756 and these actually had colours (red with white flames).

I must admit I'm skeptical that they had them. I may just have to do some creative packaging with options.
