So after finishing Lord Uxbridge, the next command base is in line, this time Napoleon Bonapart himself:

The first mini is done, one ADC:

Up next is Mameluke Ali.

Cheers,

Burkhard

Danke Günter!

In sehr begrenzten Maßen und für Freunde ja, an sonsten fehlt mir die Zeit (und ich glaube auch das die wenigsten dafür würden zahlen wollten).

In limited numbers and for friends I do. Otherwise there simply is not enough time (and I doubt that many people would be willing to pay for my work).

Cheers,

Burkhard

Thank you Ray!

The problem is that each mini still takes 4 to 5 hours, so I would have to ask for around 40 Euro. At least I would not be asking for as much as I get for my dayjob (where I can charge 100+ Euro per hour).

Ney will be done as well, although not for this base. After Soult I will paint Napoleon and begin with the base. Depending on how the base turns out space wise, I might add a few minis, but those will most likely be level level officers or troops marching by. I will use the Perry set with him and his ADC's charging for Ney. I would love to add one or two Cuirassiers being shot from their saddles, but I doubt there will be near enough space on the 8x8cm base for R2E! :(

Burkhard,
der Preis schreckt mich nicht /The price doesn't frighten me!

If the quality is as high as yours I would be more then willing to pay for it.
Besides, the figures I have in mind are not even available yet :(

Best Wishes,
Günter

@Günter: Meld' Dich einfach, wenn es sie gibt! Just get back to me when they are available!

@Ray: Almost forgot. Yes, Napoleon had a unit of Mamelukes in his Guard cavalry. If I remember correctly, they were about battalion size for most of theor service live. But only a few made it into royal service so he only had about a 100 left for the hundred days. But I think they even participated in an attack or twomat Waterloo.

Another day and another mini finished, this time Maréchal Soult. And here he is with lots of background info (do not worry, it is graphically set apart, so you can just scroll over it if uninterested):

Enjoy,

Ray,

The Mamelukes were never more than a squadron in strength and at Austerlitz numbered only 42 troopers (I forget how many officers).

cheers
Dave :)

P.S this is my first post to the Forum which I have followed and enjoyed for some time :D

Hmm 42 men at Austerlitz... that would be how many minis... 1 1/2?

Glad you enjoy this Dave!

This is why, as glamorous as they are, many miniatures companies have never bothered with them.

Even at 1:20 you are never going to sell enough Mamelukes to justify the sculpting / moulding costs.

The Perry's are probably the best bet for someone one day doing Mamelukes justice, (seeing as GW is their day job, and so they are less constrained by commercial considerations when doing their historical stuff). But most Napoleonic gamers are never going to buy more than a handful off them.
