The Älvsborg Regiment
Swedish name: Älvsborgs regemente.
The regiment was first established in 1624 as the Älvsborg Regiment. The regiment was linked to the Allotment System in 1683.
In 1949 the regiment was reorganized into an armored infantry regiment. In 1963 the regiment once again was reorganized and this time back to a regular infantry regiment.
1624 - 1648:When the regiment was set up in 1624, these districts border country when Skåne, Blekinge, Halland and Bohuslän still belonged to Denmark. Sweden's "eye" to the west the sea was Gothenburg and Älvsborg fort. Rotarna the regiment was in the seven counties in Alvsborg County, Mark, Bollebygd Kind, Redväg, Ås, gas and wood (cf. expression Sjuhäradsbygden) and Gothenburg (9 roots).
The regiment's first manager was Nils Ribbing. The regiment was among the troops at the end of June 1626 landed in Prussia. Attended September 21, 1626 at the Battle of Mewe when the Poles turned back. On August 8, 1627 the regiment took part in the battle of Dirschau. In this battle the wounded King Gustav II Adolf seriously when he was struck by a bullet in the shoulder. In 1628 the regiment took part in the siege of Strassburg in September. In 1629 the regiment was to Sweden to be supplemented. In June 1631 shipped one battalion under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Bengt Persson Pilefelt, to Germany and took part this year in the siege of Rostock and Wismar. Between 1632 and 1635 was the battalion in garrison in Buxtehude. Charles X's War, 1655 - 1660:
In 1655 becomes Bengt Lilliehöök regimental chief. That same year, attended the six companies who were stationed in Pomerania under Colonel Drakensberg officer of Field Marshal Wittenberg expedition to Poland. On July 15, 1655, these companies with the Battle of Uszcz. Companies were included then in Charles X's army and took part on September 6 at the Battle of Czarnowa. Also participates in the siege of Marienburg in February 1656th Companies were added later in the garrison in Dantzinger-Haupt, where they remain until the end of 1659 when the fort after three months of siege must be abandoned.
In Sweden, the remaining portion of the regiment was augmented by conscription to six companies. This part was stationed in 1657 in Gothenburg before the war with Denmark.
Karl XI's war, 1675 - 1679:
Prior to the war against Denmark in 1675 were most of the regiment in garrison at Stade. In 1676, they beat back a siege of the city. In autumn 1676 the regiment was back in Sweden. Year 1677 was one battalion in garrison in Gothenburg and in 1678 was the second battalion in Skåne and participated in Karl XI's Scanian campaign and siege of Kristianstad. Gothenburg The battalion participated in the rescue of the Bohus fortress in July 1678th In 1679's the whole regiment in Capricorn army in Bohuslän, where they include in July took part in the failed attack on Uddevalla's wife.
The Great Northern War, 1700 - 1721:
In 1700 the regiment was used in the Bohuslän border. They were then at home to 1705 when parts of the regiment took part in the failed attack on the recently established Russian fortress of Cronstadt, at the head of the Gulf of Finland. They were then returned to the community in 1709 when they were called to protect the Bohuslän border. They served here until the autumn of 1712 when they were transferred to Pomerania. Then they participated in General Magnus Stenbocks Mecklenburg's campaign and the Battle of Gadebusch December 20, 1712. In this battle the regiment was amassed in two battalions of infantry and was on the right wing. Thereafter, they were with the Hollstein and was contained in the fortress of Tonningen and went into captivity along with the rest of the ibex's army at the surrender there May 7, 1713.
The regiment was set up again after the capitulation, and a battalion took part in the Norwegian campaign in 1716 when they were part of Lieutenant General Morner department that took place in Norway from Bohuslän. The regiment also participated in the 1718-year Norwegian campaign when they belonged to General Dückers department that took place in Norway over Svinesund.
Pomeranian War, 1757 - 1762: In 1758 the regiment was transferred to Pomerania on the occasion of the war with Prussia. In mid-August 1759 were numbered one battalion of the Galley Fleet under General Carpelan officers and participated September 10 in the victorious sjödrabbningen on Frisches Haff. Immediately thereafter they landed on the island of Wollin and participated in the storming of the town of that name on 16 September. The battalion entered the town from the north.
In 1760 included a battalion of Lieutenant General Ehersvärds department in August tore into the Prussian territory of Anklam and then took Pasewalck. On October 3, attacked the Prussians Pasewalck where the battalion with valor defended positions. This battalion followed in 1761 the main army and participated January 2, 1762 at the Battle of Neu-Kahlen, where the Swedish army paved the way for Malchin to rescue that trapped Spregportens dressing
The regiment's history goes back to the "fänikor" that was raised in the provinces of Västergötland and Dalsland around 1552. In the 1613, King Gustav II Adolf formed a "landsregemente" - a Grand Regiment, from the Västergötland fänikor and from the fänikor in the province of Dalsland. The Grand Regiment numbered 3000 soldiers.

In 1624 the Grand Regiment was split up into three independent regiments, The Skaraborg Regiment, The Älvsborg Regiment and the Västgöta-Dal Regiment.
As a result of the Constitution adopted in 1634 the Army was reorganized. The Älvsborg Regiment was then referred to as the "11th Regiment".
In 1624, when the regiment was established, the provinces in the south and south west of Sweden (Skåne, Blekinge, Halland and Bohuslän) belonged to Denmark. The province of Västergötland (where the Älvsborg Regiment was established) was then a border province facing Denmark. The provinces of Skåne, Blekinge, Halland and Bohuslän became Swedish territory in 1658.
The regiment was allotted with 1200 "rotar".
Hence, the Regiment had 1200 soldiers organized into 8 companies. All of the "rotar" were located within the southern parts of province of Västergötland.
Names of the Companies making up the Regiment in 1682: The Life Company, The Lieutenant Colonel's Company, The Major's company, Södra Kinds Company, Norra Kinds Company, Redwågs Company, Åhs Company and Giesenäs Company.
Uniform before the standard uniform: Grey coat with yellow cuffs (1677). The regiment received the standard uniform (the blue and yellow Carolean uniform) in1691.
Location of the primary Garrison of the Regiment: From 1914, Borås. Training camp: Between 1685 and 1770 Timmele hed, Ulricehamn, between 1770 and 1783 Kila hed, Borås, between1784 and 1796 Örby hed, Borås and from 1797 Fristad hed, Borås.
The Official Regimental Colors: Yellow and black
