Once I started a discussion about Hanoverian flags on TMP forum and Lace Wars also.there seem's to be quiet a few infantry standards in the Kuhn book which seem to be from the seven years war period. wondering if any one has any info apart from Kuhn on hanoverian standards of the wss.
Flags with white horses were taken at Speyerbach in 1703. These were attributed to Hanoverian units. I'll also mention them on my blog. When does the Hanoverian horse first appear on flags?
But there are some flags dating surely to WSS, as they were taken during this conlict and later were drawn in "Triomphes ...", so I did my battalions with these flags only, skipping all later reconstrunctions. I took this approach to my Hanoverians also.I have the Robert Hall CD on the "Uniforms and Flags of the Army of Hesse-Kassel" and this work is pretty much the same with flags dating from the 1730's to the SYW yet on the cover it say's 1670 to 1730.
I was actualy going to ask that question myself about the hesse-kassel flags . Robert hall does show hesse-kassel flags taken during the wsss but I've always been of the opion that most of the infantry flags showen post date the war of Spanish scccessionChurchill wrote:Hi turrabear & maciek,

I'll be looking forward to that.maciek wrote:Once I started a discussion about Hanoverian flags on TMP forum and Lace Wars also.there seem's to be quiet a few infantry standards in the Kuhn book which seem to be from the seven years war period. wondering if any one has any info apart from Kuhn on hanoverian standards of the wss.
I've noticed that majority of colours shown in Kuhn book are similar (too similar IMHO) to SYW models. Unfortunatelly, nobody could help me with the information what was the original source of Kuhn's reconstructions. I suspect that Kuhn simply adapted well known SYW flags to WSS.
There are, howewer some flags from 1690-94 period, attributed to Luneburg & Celle by Goldberg and Belaubre. They are much simpler, with geometric pattern rather than alegoric scenes. As the union was put into life as late as 1705, I decided to give my hanoverian regiments these flags, instead of models suggested by Kuhn.
And do you know what, folks. Now I'm a bit jammed with my painting works and I must keep my blog alive, so I decided to show these flags on my blog in few posts.
I will start it this week. So stay tuned.
Excellent and very helpful, thank you. I look forward to seeing Regiment 2A as that is what I will be painting first!maciek wrote:As promised:

Enjoy and please, don't hesitate to comment.
I'm not sure I've got it's flag. So far I managed to find only eight patterns so I gave it to nine battalions (two guard battalions carry the same flag). My tenth battalion, Boisdavid (later Le Luc) will receive the Kuhn's flag, described earlier in this thread, as I found it far from SYW version, so more probable in my eyes.Hastati wrote:I look forward to seeing Regiment 2A as that is what I will be painting first!
So far I found the information that they wore the same uniforms. Data for flags are wery scarce - I'll write about it in my next post. So I assumed the above simply because of lack of other informations.Churchill wrote: I see you seem to think the two Garde battalions would by uniformed the same and carry the same flag's, even though the 1st btn were from Luneburg-Celle and the 2nd btn were from Calenberg-Hanover.
I suppose you could be right, raised in different regions of Hanover, but joined together within the same regiment...hmmm interesting.
For me it's another vote for WSS, a period of uniformity, but with 17th century flavour.Churchill wrote: What I'm also finding strange is the De Luc regiment wearing a white coat until 1706 when all other battalions are wearing a red coat.
