You know what is funny is this is the third time I've heard the expression 'pull your finger out' in the last few months. The first time was while I was on a businesss trip to Bristol in January. A co-worker there had told someone in the U.S. to 'pull their finger out' because he needed to them hurry up and create a new system user & password. Well, given that they did not know what that meant or where the expression came from so it definitely something in the translation to the team in Houston, TX and they made the password f1nger A$$. We all had a good laugh when he explained where the expression came from. Obviously here in the U.S. it means something a little different although the end result means the same thing - hurry up and finish it!
