Killiecrankie/Dunkeld 1689 uniforms?

Post by TheRightfulKing2013 » Sun Sep 18, 2022 8:39 pm

I'm looking for information on Jacobite uniforms - if any - in this battle and the wider Jacobite rising of 1689 in Scotland.

Did Alexander Cannon's Irish regiment have a uniform? Were there French soldiers present?

I largely have the Williamite uniforms.

Jacobites were clad in very dull clothing. Civilian clothing. No uniforms used.

Purcell's Irish regiment that accompanied Brigadier General Alexander Cannon were likely clad in drab grey or white.

No French soldiers were present with the Scottish Jacobites.

Only a few Scottish government regiments were clad in the redcoats in 1689. The Scots Dutch-Brigade were in red but the new raised regiments would have been largely wearing their civilian clothing and the blue bonnet. Leven's, Kenmure's etc.

Earl of Angus's Regiment at Dunkeld were all wearing their civilian clothes as no uniforms had been issued at that point.
