Hi Ray,

They're all exquisite. My favourite have to be Wyndham's, that shade of green is beautiful. What a job your painter has done for you.

Ray,

What a marvellously informative thread - and great miniatures, too! Well done. Such a lot of hard work behind it all.

Ray,

Yes, I can see that many have collaborated to keep this thread going.

Can you recommend some reading on Blenheim, please. Is Spencer's book any good? Stanford for OOB and info on the units?

Best Wishes

Hello, Theo.

On Military Matters in the US still list the Robert Hall plates in the catalogue, along with many uniform CD's, books etc. just click on the "Marlburian" tab in their index on the side bar & drool! They are a good company to deal with.

Theo

I can also recommend David Chandler's ''Blenheim Preparation - The English Army on the march to the Danube - Collected Essays'', published 2004 by Spellbound, ISBN 1-873376-95-2.

The book is in two sections, the first addressing the aspects of warfare in the period, some background on Churchill himself and comprehensive elements on the various arms within the army along with fortification, supply and casualties. The second section deals with the battles of 1704 and also places excellent focus on some key eye-witness profiles.

You may find it on publishers overrun outlets and at shows. The published price was £25 however I bought mine new at about £8 I recall.
Well worth it as it covers the battle in its wider context as well as the specific detail.

Hi Ray,

Well, I am reading Spencer's book on Blenheim and really enjoying it far more than I had anticipated. He writes very well and the narrative pace is swift and sure. I cannot comment on his scholarship - he quotes many original sources, including Louis XIV and several of his officers and commanders, and offers some background into the period. I would endorse it.

I'm also poring over Stanford's wee tome and enjoying that, too. Oh for similar books on Ramillies, Oudenarde and Malplaquet!

All Good Wishes
